Egyptians *are* Arabs. That is not what they *were*, before the Arabs swarmed out of the Arabian peninsula in the 600s AD.
Arabs did not live in significant numbers anywhere outside said peninsula until Mohammed organized them into a great Jihad that swept across the southern and eastern Mediterranean, which was culturally and ethnically European.
