Map design leaves a lot to be desired and the end-game tiering has been squashed together so there's no distinction between late war and post war tanks. If you stick with early-mid war vehicles you'll still only get a decent tank game experience (maneuvering over open terrain instead of ducking in and out of crowded streets) about 40% of the time. I wish there was a better option for this stuff out there but unfortunately WT is the most accessible.

Yeah this is what they did in WoT to sooth their asshurt over the Germans having better tanks.
As far as the tiny maps go, I think those are placeholders. Not making excuses for them, I just get a sense that they do eventually want to have bigger and more strategic maps. Perhaps they have realized, however, that they can get away with the bare minimum these days.
