The internet has allowed separate communities to come together and a coalition of people who are "to the right", but are against the traditional conservative establishments has come together in the internet under the broad term alt-right. It's right-libertarians, neo-reactionaries, paleoconservatives and nationalists mostly.
Traditionally you have have the right wing - the conservatives and the left wing - the liberals(and socialists these days, though that's another issue). We believe that the current conservative political leaders do not represent the interest of their voters - in america that would be neoconsevatives and RINOs, I suppose. We've got it here in Europe too - many countries are supposedly ruled by a right-wing or center-right party (the tories in the UK and GERB here in Bulgaria for instance) yet they betray our interests - they are globablists and puppets.
Alt-right GENERALLY supports Nigel Farage, Geert Wilders, Marine le Pen(though her niece would be a better leader IMO), AfD in Europe and Donald Trump in the USA. These leaders and their parties come under attack from the "true conservatives", which is why we don't consider ourselves part of them and label ourselves the alternative right.
In the US the movement has roots in some politicians of olde and in more recent decades folks like Richard Spencer. It's the disenfranchised common people who are tired of corrupt politicians of the establishment. In the last 2 years we've grown considerably and /pol/ is one of our centers.
