The explict implication being that progress for progress's sake is inherently good because it is always working towards the end game goal of global communism. Communism isn't a goal that is trying to be achieved, but rather a goal that has already been achieved by some future socialists and is predestined. This means everything that they do, every immoral act, every objectively wrong program, idea, or piece of rhetoric they practice, is JUSTIFIED and unobjectionable because it is part of what will inevitably lead towards the already established conclusion of a global communist paradise.
Lied on the tv? Perfectly fine, it's part of our progression to communism. Cheated on your boyfriend? perfectly fine, it's part of our progression to communism. Caused 20 million people to die? No big deal, it's part of our progression to communism.

Because among progressives the idea of social progression is still alive, either in so called whig-history or in hegelian/marxist dialectic, where entire flow of history is the flow of slow progression from less freedom to more, from oppression of minorities to egalitarianism.
Sure the "post-structuralists" and "post-marxist" (you'd call them cultural-marxist) pretty much destroyed this idea, which was accepted as an attack by the more orthodox leftists and marxists, but ironically those who tried to continue the path laid by the post-structuralists or whatever you want to call them, ironically strayed back to historical determinism of progress as a straight line where there are things that are inseparably linked to modernity, or rather post-modernity.
