So the UK just introduced a sugar tax.
https://yougov.co.uk/news/2016/03/18/least-fair-budget-omnishambles/
Thoughts on taxing sugar products to stop people getting fat?
>>
Its a good idea, although maybe not enough.

We need to get rid of all the lazy fat people and this is the start
>>
In Finland we have had a sugar tax for a while now. I'm not really sure whether it actually makes a difference on obesity but the state makes a nice coin off it
>>
>>67879134
Just a way to make some cash. Fatasses will still be fat
>>
>>67879251

Does the sugar tax in your country make a big difference in price?
>>
I like it. Same idea as tobacco and alcohol tax, but really only overall effects poor people who are the obese and unhealthy people in the first place.

MUH 600 GORILIAN
>>
We have this but it was deemed anti competitive by European Commission so the candy part of it will be going away in 2017.

>>67879330
on stuff like candy it's 0.95€/kg and on sugary drinks 0.11€/litre.
>>
>>67879387
In other words they will now be fat and even poorer.
>>
>>67879387
Yes the tobacco taxes hit the poorest the hardest.
>>
>>67879330
Well the sugar tax has contributed a lot to it. Fazer Blue, the go-to chocolate has tripled in price since switching to euro.
>>
>>67879134
Hoping for a full on fat tax next, might be a few years off but I'm fed up to all hell with fatties not paying extra for taking up twice as much pavement space as a normal human.
>>67879325
Yeah, but now there gonna be slightly more punished for it.
>>
>>67879134
Yes.
Refined sugar is one of the main problems of today
>>
All it does is punish poor people just like every other sin tax.

Sugar is fundamentally an addictive substance. So the rich people addicted to sugar won't care while the poor people will just find a way to cheap out on other parts of their lives just like they do for actual drugs.

It won't be quite as bad as drugs of course, but it'll still be bad.

Fucking EC.

KILL. THEM. ALL

Great excuse to make more money off the people

Governments are being ran like businesses now. People are using them for profit and job security and always pushing to further grow it and increase revenue.

Basically this >>67879251

It's a great guise under the premise "the government needs to pay for healthcare and to be fair we should tax sugar cause heart disease etc"

In reality, everyone eats sugar, food scientists are constantly changing their mind about shit, and the money will be used for something entirely different.
>>
>>67879134
Everything is made out of sugar nowadays......
>>
>>67880221
Not to mention all the wear and tear they put on taxis/busses/public benches
>>
>>67879223
>Its a good idea, although maybe not enough.

You're right, you people need sugar license.
>>
>>67880437
That extra healthcare expense!
I so fucking done paying for others stupidity.
>>
>>67880509
Fucking kek'd
>>
fucking britishcucks never had a tax they didn't love
>>
Wow Brits like the sugar tax? What cucks. No wonder they have TV licenses. These cucks just bend over and take it.
>>
Does the money go to health care?

You are spot on.

The charade falls flat, when you find out that they increased VAT on health supplements by 20%, 2 years prior to this move.

>people are overweight
>lets tax health supplements
>>
>>67880892
>health supplements
>doing shit
Losing weight is a simple case of EATING LESS
>>
>eat next to no sugar
>still a little overweight
Looks like I win this time fags.
>>
I wouldn't mind such ban since I use sugar only as a seasoning for some meals and in curing meat. I expect thought, that butthurt of normies would be enormous so I'm fine with this.
>>
>>67881062
I meant tax not ban.

>Refined sugar is one of the main problems of today
No it's not. The problem is people have zero willpower, and drive to control their eating habits and stuff their face like wild animals.
So instead of enjoying a small can of soda they just down a whole liter of cola.

See the guy in this picture: he worked in a soviet factory all fucking day during the 50s and still trained for the Olympics. People today have it so much easier and still can't be bothered with getting to an acceptable weight.
>>
>>67879134
Won't help
>>
>>67880380

>Great excuse to make more money off the people

The revenue raised from sugar tax is ringfenced, for use in school sports and lengthening school days.

>food scientists are constantly changing their mind about shit

Science is a constantly evolving field... That's the nature of empirical research. We might as well ignore the negative consequences of smoking, on the off chance scientists "change their mind" about cigarettes being unhealthy.
>>
>>67879134
It's another hidden tax. If you really cAre than you would have sugar limitation in the product or bann some pruducts from the market. As usual, the government reaches the wrong end of the fishing line.
>>
>>67881062
>>67881117
It's a tax on sugar in drinks not sugar generally. Doesn't go far enough.
>>
>>67880238
>>67881125
Well the real problem is our low fat, high carb, high fructose diets.
Fructose has similar effects to alcohol but without the buzz.
>>
>>67879134
It won't change anything. people buy junk food because it is quick and easy. Healthy food requires you to put in some effort.
>>
Its a good step in a right direction to not become a fat ass sloth nation like the USA
>>
>>67881027
Yep, so you have to ask, what does the government making money off you have anything to do with this. Or, did they think of any other way to curb obesity than putting money in their pockets?
>>
It's a distraction.
>>
>>67879134
Hey Britain, Remember when you did this shit to us? and we liberated ourselves? You need to do that too, it aint funny anymore.
>>
>>67880509
Wouldnt surprise me, this is the same nation that once imposed a window tax.
>>
>>67881499
It's going to fund sports in schools
>>
>>67880575
>>67880600

We don't really care. Only scum are addicted to sugary drinks in this country. Of course, in the USA you shovel gallons of corn syrup down your gullets on a daily basis, so it would cause an upset over there.

Our corporation tax is going down to 17%, whilst yours is increasing to 39%, so tell me who the real cucks are.
>>
>>67879134
NYC cucks did the same thing. Didn't work out well.
>>
>can of coke costs 70p
>now sugar tax it costs 78p
Obesity cured guys. But seriously. Smoking tax was just means smokers pay more and get poorer while the rich get richer. Flawed logic
>>
>>67880380
There's a huge difference between the sugars in milk and fruit, and the refined sugars in soda and confectioneries.

Refined sugars are literally poison. They spike your insulin levels and consuming them over time dramatically increases your chances of developing diabetes. The WHO says a healthy adult should limit their intake to 25g of refined sugars per day (this is about 2/3 of a can of coke).
>>
>>67881904

A lot of people have quit smoking since a pack of cigarettes costs £10
>>
>>67881904
they could just stop smoking
>>
>>67882139

tobacco and sugar are both as addictive as heroin, consumers will just absorb the price increase. Low elasticity of demand.
>>
>>67881904
They could stop being dumb lardarses and not drink shit
>>
>>67879134
Well it worked with certain brands of Alcohol in Germany and sift drinks in Latvia I think
>>

Coke is too cheap in the UK, we need to tax that shit
>>
>>67882411
>30p
What? It is about 80p for a can.
>>
>>67882411
Here's a thought. Surely the sale of Diet Coke and Sugar Free drinks will just skyrocket. Fizzy Drinks companys will just ship more diet stuff right?
>>
>>67882535
Maybe that is the point of the tax, make it so that the diet versions are cheaper so people will prefer to buy them?
>>
>>67882535
>>67882632

It's because the artificial sweetners are estrogenic, the government wants us to drink more diet drinks full of estrogen so we become more passive and submissive
>>
>>67882738
Too bad for them I dont drink that shit anyway. Milk, water and Beer for me please.
>>
>>67879134
The tax is just for more money for the government.

They should have banned drinks with too much sugar (or even sugar-free sweetener) in them instead, set hard limits. Sometimes I want to enjoy a cola for caffeine and cola taste, but Coca Cola and most other brands are just so loaded with sweetness, making them taste ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING and undrinkable. There are some German hipster brands like Fritz-Cola that is not so sweet, but they are quite expensive.
>>
>>67881319

In the case of food "science" it's heavily influenced by lobbyists. Palm oil was considered bad for you because of influence by the canola industry, etc. Butter was the devil until we figured out that saturated fat was literally necessary for brain function and hormone production.

The only safe bet is eating food we've always been eating.
>>
>>67881027
I agree completely mate.

The point I was making, is that their first move, was to increase VAT on supplements, that are usually taken by people that exercise regularly.

While now they change rhetoric, pretending that they care about people being fat fucks, when in reality it's just about money.
>>
>>67882978

The safest bet is to eat unprocessed foods. The Mediterraneans live a long time and stay healthy eating diets full of fats, they actually consume more fats than Brits and Americans yet have lower obesity.
>>
>>67879134
Good luck taxing the cum I get from my boyfriend
>>
>tax white sugar
>dont tax brown sugar
UK, not even once
>>
>>67883498
Refined sugar is pure evil. That's why.
>>
>>67883498

Brown sugar is healthier. All cane sugar is healthier than your shitty corn syrup though, pleb.
>>
>>67879134

This is what you get with socialism, eventually everything is taxed to support the bloated corpse of the government, they will tax fucking air in the end.
>>
>>67881585
Sure it will...
>>
>>67882485
Where do you live senpai? In North Londonistan even pakis charge 70p at most
