Android is preferred by the lower-middle class and the poor because it's much cheaper and they have a low time preference so they're constantly buying the next landfill-tier plastic toy (or the iPhone from two generations ago).
Everyone I know has had an iPhone for two or three years at least and they all love them. I myself own both an Android phone and an iPhone (software developer).
