It's about acceptance and personal liberty. They think everyone should be able to live how they want without being shunned so long as it's not hurting other people. They don't really look at the big picture, just individual rights.
The utmost personal liberty is not being bound to anything. You just do whatever you want. So sure, why should we just date one person at a time? Why not two, or six? Let's overthrow the traditions that keep us bound to unhappy relationships, when we might naturally enjoy more "polyamorous" ones.
