Institute isn't political, it's basically a bunch of MIT scientists who change the world the way they see fit and don't give a single fuck what any one individual has to say.
As for the brotherhood, they are the past. Brotherhood never evolved past their "Laser Guns and Power Armor Solve Everything" Phase. They're a bunch of basement dweller, Lyon's Brotherhood is the same except they don't sit around in a basement. Wasteland will always stay the same with the brotherhood, and Trump made it pretty clear that they are going to make changes.
If anything, Trump is more like the MidWestern BOS(Fallout Tactics) or the minutemen. I don't know about Carson, but Cruz/Rubio are all just puppets, if anything, they are fallout's equivalent of synths.

It was completely shit. The entire game was lorebreaking as fuck. According the the FALLOUT 1 game manual, the atomic bombs they dropped during the great war were so powerful and the fallout was so massive there is NO WAY that new vegas wouldnt have been hit by extreme amounts of radiation.

Also, FO4 is one of the best games I have ever played. It's not "Awful", you just have absolutely no taste. Fallout 4 is everything fallout should be, but next gen. If you didn't like something, blame this new "Next Gen" Bullshit and not fallout. I also don't like Next Gen and what it's doing to games, but Fallout 4 didn't suffer from it IMHO. It's not a perfect game by any means, but a few mods here and there and you got yourself everything that's great about fallout in a new next gen package.
The only thing I hate is how FO4 is trying to be too much like a MMORPG, but you can ignore that and play the game like you want to

The map size is WAY too small for a game coming it in 2015 when the map size for both skyrim, oblivion, AND fallout 3 were all bigger.
You have almost 0 options as far as rpg elements. The quests are all extremely boring, stale, and predictable. All of the "twists" were so obvious from the get go you cant even call them twists.
The settlement option seems like a complete ripoff of minecraft and really doesnt add anything to the game other than trying to be like the Sims.
There are not even 1/2 as many guns in fallout 4 as there were in Fallout 3. They literally reused liberty prime from fallout 3.
The game holds your hand the entire way and quite literally gives you power armor, something thats supposed to be HARD TO GET and POWERFUL, in one of the first quests in the game.
Fallout 4 is what happens when you try to casualize a game as much as possible in order to appeal to as many people as possible. They cut out any substance that Fallout games had and added a bunch of gimmicks that no one even cares about anymore because no one is playing it 3 months after it came out.

I would have sided with the Enclave in FO3 had that been an option.
I'm about halfway through my playthrough right now and I haven't decided who to choose.
Brotherhood is probably my default choice, but they're kind of boring (although more fascistic and aggressive compared to FO3), and they just seem to horde technology, they don't really do anything with it other than fight with it (not that I'm against it).
I haven't even made contact with the Railroad yet because I couldn't give two shits about rescuing synth.
The Institute seem like a bunch of dicks with few redeeming factors other than their technology.
I want to like the Minutemen because they're the most 'Murica but they seem too weak.

Why? No Mods. Fallout 4 has some very annoying flaws, but all of them can be modded away. Not to mention that due to MMORPG nature of the game, modding it is fucking amazing, vanilla game has nothing on a modded experience.
Did you play FO3/FNV with mods? FO4 With Mods will blow you away, there is no comparison. Don't cuck yourself for a 600$ POS unless you plan on playing COD, that is literally the only thing my xbox is good for since most people play COD on xbox(PS4 now days, so I hear).
BTW I still have my xbox from 2008, too. Use it mostly for COD and for Unmodded Fallout, for nostalgia's sake

The Institute is the only option in the game. It's so obvious that people miss it. Railroad has no redeeming qualities. Minutemen is the most realistic of them all but not the best choice. they'd just turn into an NCR type. BoS is very cool. I think they're important to the wasteland but that's all that will ever be. They will never create robots to clean the wastes. Never create new plants to clean the air. Never bring back dead species. They BoS are to Fallout what Destiny is to MMOs.
