Well, I've decided that I will be like my great ancestors (Pure German) and convert to Christianity so I do not ruin my bloodline with the virus that is Atheism. So tell me, why haven't you converted to Christianity or at least Roman Catholicism yet?

I'm in the process of returning to the Roman Catholic faith. Was baptized Catholic but raised in a variety of various christian denominations. Spent most of my life as a lukewarm Christian, not wanting to give up fapping or booze or other various vices.
For some reason I recently felt a strong urge to return to Catholicism and take it seriously. Maybe it was finally waking up and seeing how much of a degenerate I'd become after succumbing to years of fapping to gay porn, half-assing my way through college and generally spending 10 years of my life in a giant brain fog.
Decided on Catholicism because the evidence, miracles and history seem to be on their side. Still asking a lot of questions, but I definitely prefer my current lifestyle to my previous one. I'm working harder, exercising, trying to be charitable and otherwise a productive member of society and not just fapping to tumblr all day.
Explain Catholicism to me as if I were 10 years old

The argument for Catholicism is that they are in fact the original Christian church, founded by Christ himself and that Peter was the first Pope. "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, etc".

Okay, but then how did we get where we are today? Peter, who was chosen to have jesus powers alongside the other apostles, granted that power to even more people and so on and so forth? But, as far as I'm aware, the way the Pope is chosen is through a voting process. How can someone just become Pope if they don't actually have divine powers and are just chosen by a group of people? I can't recall seeing the Pope exorcise demoniacs or heal cripples.

And, on the topic of Peter, if he was Pope, wouldn't the church uphold the law (Jewish identity, in this case) to a fuller extent? Paul rebuked the shit out Peter for trying to suggest that being a Christian required transitioning into a Jew via circumcision. Peter being the first Pope makes no sense outside of that quote made by Jesus.
In fairness, though, this was early church stuff. It might have just changed over the years.

Well, both the Orthodox and Catholic churches have reasons why they are the original church. I actually thought about Orthodoxy but there's too much of a cultural barrier for it to be truly universal.
