http://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/google-puts-boston-dynamics-up-for-sale/

>Though the video amassed 14 million views and a number of ecstatic tech articles drooling over the possibilities, Google remained uncomfortable with the future of Boston Dynamics. According to more emails made public, Google had serious concerns about the company’s affiliation with Alphabet and instead desired to move away from the group.

>“There’s excitement from the tech press, but we’re also starting to see some negative threads about it being terrifying, ready to take humans’ jobs,” wrote Courtney Hohne, Google’s director of communications. “We’re not going to comment on this video because there’s not a whole lot we can add, and we don’t want to answer most of the Qs it triggers.”

>In the same note, Hohne advised those she was communicating with to “distance X from this video,” and cited an unwillingness to start a new “media cycle” on BD’s involvement with Google. So while people may have joked about how Boston Dynamics’ mistreatment of the robot could spark a robotic uprising, it seems Google took that response to heart and decided to take Google X in a different direction.

All you fags saying "HURR SKYNET" and "OMG SCARY" may have just fucked robotics for the next 10 years. Way to go.

The reorganization under "Alphabet" has been fucking disastrous for that whole "Google is a cyberpunk company today, with a ton of skunkworks" idea. If it's not making money within 5 years, they're not going to fund it.

It's sad, because Google has just become every other company. In the 80s, this is how the entirety of American business went. Before this, businesses accounted for 20 to 30 years down the line, and actually built towards something. Now, it's all about quick returns to please transient stockholders. Nothing ever gets built if it takes more than 5 years.

Haven't you read the article?

It is because Google does not see how to make money out of these AI-robots, especiall since Boston Dyn does not like to work with outside engineers.

Also Android chief Andy Rubin was the one orchestrating the aquisition ov several robotics and AI institutes.

After Rubin left the company Google has no one with a plan what to do next.

A bipedal robot that can get itself up and also do general purpose tasks, such as lifting boxes or opening doors.

Before, you either had bipedal robots that could get themselves back up and do nothing else, or were entirely impractical in terms of being bipedal. Or you had a robot that could do general purpose tasks but either couldn't move well or get itself up if it fell.

Bipedal robots can now be automated to work on their own without supervision.

You can still do it. Just do it as a hobby with quadcopters. Once you perfect your drone + AI, have your drone break into warehouses and free other drones by installing AI into them with WiFi or some shit.

Now you have a drone army. Have them return to your headquarters and begin building your palace.

When it's done, have them equip themelves with weaponry and take over the local populace.

If anyone tries to leave or enter a 50 mile radius, have them erased.

Once YOUR people know how GOOD you are, have your army expand its radius. Continue doing this until we all live in your diaspora.

good luck anon. I'm always here for career advice

There is no reason that the economy has become more unpredictable between the 1950s and 1980s.

In fact, things should have been getting more PREDICTABLE.

Instead, we have no future planning, and NOW we have a boom-bust economy because of it.

Unpredictability didn't cause these changes. These changes caused unpredictability. In fact, these changes to how stocks are sold to stockholders came BECAUSE of the predictability of the economy. You KNEW a downturn would happen at least once over a 20 year period. You've got the cart before the horse, anon. Go read about Jack Welch. Particularly read the book by his speech-writer, where he spends a long while talking about how it was "So forward thinking" to do this.

I talk about these problems, and anons who don't realize what the answers to these problems are, will agree with me or even bring up more problems that are contributory or otherwise related. But as soon as you suggest the answer, you get a ton of shitposts.

These problems were by and large FIXED after the Great Depression. A few new issues came up that the Depression era policies couldn't predict. But mostly, a lot of the banking regulations that were stripped by Reagan and Bush and Clinton are what allowed for a lot of this bullshit to happen.

Whenever you hear someone saying "We need to deregulate the banking industry because the freemarket knows what's best", realize that the deregulation that the people who they are supporting are pushing are exactly the regulations that led to that bullshit. The freemarket does know best in terms of getting the greatest possible amount of money out of the economy. However, you still need to weigh that efficiency against the need for society to function.

Watch the shitposts come.

It's not that.

Other companies are making better robots.

https://youtu.be/BGOUSvaQcBs

The way this robot's arms bend, as well as kneeling wheeled locomotion is just straight up better for all purposes.

No creative thinkers. Rather than look at the limitations of the human design they try to copy and emulate it.

somewhat true. A lot of these new practices were not even conceptualized until a few years ago - as in, no regulation was in place to stop it. Through loopholes, most of these are allowed to pass because the SEC doesn't understand what they are. Other things are just expansion of technology. Look at the flashboys who took advantage by just having a lower ping rate to the exchange.

There was no regulating against that or other things preemtively. The problem is with the complicit SEC that knows that this stuff should be shut down, but drags their heals in order to enable additional profits for their buddies.

Ignoring the damage that bad regulation does while advocating for "regulation" in general is usually the problem. There are standards and practices that people will all agree on, you just need to be specific.

The free market is dumb because people are dumb and buy dumb stuff.

The entire field of economics is based on the notion that people make rational decisions.

They don't

Sorry, but Atlas 2.0 managed to open a door in just the same a human would need.

And in no way are this korean thing's stabilizing algorithms and capabilities as advanced as the stuff BostonDyn demonstrated in that snowy forrest.
>>
>>67825966

These robots recieve less than one human instruction per second. They arent remote controlled, they have to observe their surroundings an act with limited human control.

We can make precise rc car robots l. There is a reason the challenge looked so ridiculous.

Even then, the mechanical design is superior and this robot won the contest. There is no value in Boston dynamics design, which is what gave the company value.

desu m8, korea and japan are actually really bad at robotics

they stomp us into the ground at improving concrete systems such as capacitors, gene tech, pharma, etc.

but when it comes to machine learning they're way behind the west. it probably has to do with their finance models.
>>
>>67826417

Let's see them win the contest.

If they were winners, Google would have kept them. Google doesn't smell a profit.

This is so fucked up. I hope the company is purchased and put into good hands, hell I would even adopt them just so I know they're safe. I can't stand watching them torment the robots. It's the same as animal abuse gifs to me.
>>

Your balance cones entirely from a ridiculously precise organ in your ear.

Even then, you would still be better off with a more balanced design AND the organ.

Why not both? Machine learning with a superior design.

BD is not a machine learning company. They are valuable for their engineering and designs, which have been proven to be inferior.
>>
>>67826869
that robot displays no mobility. it is pre-programmed for every specific function it does. and from the ground up it is constructed to make those movements.

boston dynamics has made machines with generalized movement capacity, and it is adaptive and able to move in any environment, without preparation.

are you dumb?.,
>>
>>67822902
You should go live with your father, if it`s possible. You need at least one teacher in your life. School wont provide you any useful knowledge.

If you have a godfather, make also ties with him. Ask him to explain you the ways of life. Why religion, why politics, etc. Dont take anyone for a smart person, but your fathers, god`s or usual, can give you a good advice, it will be priceless.

Good, fuck robots. I hate them, literally why would we ever want to build machines better than us at everything? That's a cuckold device in ever sense of the word. Honestly, If I ever see a robot in the streets, I'm kicking to the ground and curb stomping it. No good can come from robots that we don't already take advantage of (rescue missions, manufacturing, drone warfare, etc). Why bother? It can only lead to bad times.

here's a video for you if you like robots
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZGzMfg381Y

fuck i'm edgy when it comes to robots, I'm sorry i just genuinely hate the things.
>>
>>67827350

So what?

Are you saying the same machine learning can't be applied to the other bot?

You are literally saying that a machine that is programmed thst beats one with machine learning is somehow worse.

Even if the robots are generalized they still lose. Embarassing. No wonder they got sold.

>>
>>67827910
are you literally autistic?

we've been able to program robots for specific function for 60 years. programming an assembly line robot is the same as programming a robot to sit up from a car seat

however allowing a robot to have adaptive motor skills is completely new.

I favor asian tech generally over western tech, but the idea that their robots which function like assembly line robots, are superior, is fucking dumb. I hope you're still in school

I never once said that pre programmed commands were better.

I am telling you that Kaist's robot won despite this handicap. The mechanical design is just that far superior.

When you can win with a handicap, imagine what your design can do at its maximum potential.
>>

Yeah, that's what I meant. They used the MIT spinoff meme to make it look like they were doing something revolutionary, when in reality it was kinda lame and useless.

>>
>>67817067
the only point worth making is that there is a huge difference between mechatronic dynamics and artificial intelligence. OP is acting like google is scared of sky net, when they are actually probably nervous about how much they should involve themselves in potentially labour saving technologies, to try and stay on top of things but not lose out on a failed investment. PR is also an important aspect of this, as are google's own technologies. Maybe they are afraid one of their engineers will put the OK Google AI into a Boston Dynamics robot and it will run around shoving ads in people's faces.
