Now, if government is there to serve and protect the people than it should be in everyone's best interest to protect the value of the US dollar in preventing this almost impossible to imagine amount of debt to be paid down.
This (economically speaking) can maintain low cost of goods and services desired in the US, strengthen the US Dollar vs the worlds other currencies, have positive effects on making healthcare more affordable. I am hoping that this would create a positive flow of deflation rather than the negative flow of deflation.

part of that was because of the clinton military cuts. The US military as a whole was not ready for a military theater operations. This is why stop loss and a huge mobilization of the national guard was needed to cover the wholes in the active duty military in 2005-2010
