Well firstly, just by his existence as a candidate, the Overton window has been shifted by him, it's moved more in the last 6 months than it has in the last 25 years.
Secondly, the fact that he proposes simple solutions to complex problems (but solutions that require political courage and a certain amount of political risk for the proposer) will also shift the spectrum of policies and government actions. Actually enforcing immigration rules by deporting those who break immigration law is one example. Imagine a UK where we quadrupled the resources available to the immigration police and deportation courts, and had a week of 24-7 raids and deportation hearings, it would be glorious.
Thirdly, he is making a form of nationalism, and protection of national standard of living, an acceptable position to take.
All this and he has not even been selected as candidate, nor elected to the office of President yet.
If he is actually selected, if he is elected to office, then the influence he has on UK politics will be multiplied ten-fold.
