Is the earth flat /pol/?

I feel like I've gone through multiple stages of the redpill.

First dindus are less evolved etc. This one was easy and quick because I wen't to a majority dindu school.

Then it was the many 'conspiracy' theories.

Finally it was the jews and the fake holocaust.

Is flat earth the next one? It seems so absolutely ridiculous that I can't even think about it logically. Help me understand /pol/. Is the earth really flat?
>>
>>67749215
Do you even know basic physics you dumbass
>>
allow me to redpill you

it's actually a cone

>>
The Earth is round in 3D, a curled spiral in 4D, and a disk in a holographic universe.

Now pick your perspective.
>>
bump i guess. come on you flat earthers here's another one on the fence that just needs a push.

Well what happens if you reach the end?

Sure is. Just fly in a airplane and look out a window. You see a flat horizon that never changes regardless of elevation. No curvature of the "globe" can be seen.
>>
>>67750150
It will be very painful
>>
>>67749558
I thought it was generally cylindrical, with a slightly misshapen cone on the top.
There was also a theory about two orbs at the base of the cylinder. But that was still yet to be confirmed.
>>
Why does the function f(x)= x^2 appear to be a straight line at zero? Because the domain = {-10^-31,10^31}.
Increasing the domain to {-.25,.25} one can begin to see that the function f(x)=x^2 begins to concave from the origin.
Zooming out to domain = {-10,10} is where the function truly shows its form.
Do the same, but for earth.

Here comes the ultimate red pill. No one ever believed that the earth was flat, it's a myth that originated from Ludvig Holbergs play "Erasmus Montanus" from 1723. Historians have documented that people in generel was aware of the earths shape due to sailing. Sailors have always been able to see other ships in the horizont and to conclude from that, that the earth had to be flat.

Flat earth can't explain a seismic shadow zone.
>>
>>67753270
What is that?

Are you talking about P waves and S waves and aftershocks? or something else?
>>
From what I can tell the only decent arguments are 1. there are some strange flight paths that take you out of the way which apparently would make sense on a flat model, and 2. Antarctica (which is the outer ring, aka the edge of the world) is heavily guarded by military and no one's ever fully explored it.

It's a sphere mate.
Have you ever been on a boat or a fucking plane?
The planet is round. I regularly fly to New Zealand because my family lives there. The plane flies high enough that I can see curvature of the Earth. Pic related.
If you go on a boat, you can see other boats pass the horizon.
>>
>>67753561
Yeah I'm a pilot so I've flown many times and seen the curvature. Still wanted to hear the arguments for flat earth to see if it was possibly true.

Ofcourse. Due to a certain refraction caused by the earth's internal structure, there'll be an area those waves won't be able to reach.

That's actually a pretty amazing argument. Found this when I got interested in your comment. Even the major flat earthers only have one tiny theory with no credibility: The waves, upon hitting the edge of the earth, bounce back and cancel each other out. Of course, it holds no water (haha, pun on S waves).

flat earth came from old sumerian folk tales, adapted by jews later when they rewrote sumerian myths into their torah.

they have some idea that in the sky was an iron or tin dome that held back lots of water which manifested as rain, but you couldn't get that idea today if you looked up.

that's why i think back then there was a really heavy, nearly permanent cloud cover, which made the sky look gray like metal, and gave them idea it's made of metal, and occassional rain gave them idea it held back water.

and then after some kind of cosmic catastrophe like an asteroid the cloud cover broke down and all of that rain water fell to earth, causing a worldwide flood which permeates all myths across the planet.

then when anu/yhwh "gave them the rainbow" it signified the end of cloud cover, end of the tropical climate and greenhouse effect and sunlight shone through for the first time, creating the prism called rainbow.
>>
>>67750734

you don't deserve one
>>
>>67754882
hmmm interesting. I know in the Bible it talks about the water above and the water below. Like the flood was the very first rain and before that the humidity was enough to sustain shit.
>>
>>67755614
i don't exactly remember where, i think one of the psalms, but the bible also mentions an iron dome or something similar around the earth.

Even in a real flat world you would see the horizon simply because of how we process distances. at some point your focus point (which isn't infinite) will see as far as it can see and your brain will define it to be at said distance. As a simple show of this, look at the horizon standing up, then slowly put your head lower until you are at the grown level, still looking at the same horizon. You'll notice it will change, even if there are no trees. That said, if you had a super powerful camera, yo should technically be able to zoom to anything that isn't obstructed by something lower than you.
>>
>>67749215
It's flat as fuck.

>>67749215

The earth is sphere-ish but several orders of magnitude larger than we are led to believe with a much more dramatic axial tilt

pretty obvious desu senpai
>>
>>67754101
In general, geology of a flat -earth isn't something talked about in depth by anyone so I can't link you to anything of interest, so my half baked response will have to do:

Consider the article and why the shadow exist: if you were to put a flashlight against an inflated ballon, if nothing is in the middle it will produce a predictable light shape on the other side of the ballon in more or less a straight line. Things wouldn't be particularly different if you were to put it against an uninflated one, and you could even figure out some geometry that would allow it on a flat surface.

Now, consider a ballon with another, much darker ballon inside. If you were to shine a flashling on one side, a define, constant shadow would form on the other side of the ballon. No matter where you light it, the shadow would be of more or less the same size but just shift location and orientation because the darker ballon would always be there, no matter where you shine it. There is no geometry you can use to replicate this in a flat surface.

No. The people who believe this place double standards on the problem. They don't acknowledge how retrograde planetary motion exists. They say that the antartic circle should be the widest part of the globe (the outer rim), but they don't charter boats to prove it. No matter what scientists show or explain, it's not good enough if they don't experience it themselves, yet they refuse to get any kind of experience.

I can tolerate a lot of things that I think are stupid simply because the possibility, no matter how absurd, remains. But the flat earth theory is utter shit.

I've seen some shit man...
There is no curvature. Not even in space.
>>
>>67749215
No. We've sent bunches of people from different nationalities to space(meaning that if there was some big secret, someone would have spilled the beans by now), we have videos of Earth as the ISS orbits around, we can fly/sail the whole way around the world without falling off, and contrary to popular belief, the idea of a spherical Earth has been accepted by religious officials and educated individuals for a very long time. The circumference of the Earth was actually calculated somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd century BC with incredible accuracy (only 50 miles off from the current estimate) and the curvature of Earth can be observed without scientific studsy by watching ships disappear over the horizon.

The only way a flat Earth theory would be credible is if reality was just a simulation and physics, history, and all of the people around you are just part of the simulation. But that's even more tinfoil than believing the Earth is flat.
