>2015, my 24th year on this planet, was an awful year. At least, that’s now I felt during the majority of the year, while it was happening. It was full of just about any negative feeling or event you can think of. Heartache, betrayal, loss, death, fear, paranoia, anger, depression, regret, insomnia, and self deprecation. My attendance at shows, with my activist group, with friends, etc all became scare because I let all the garbage just consume me and take over.
But I made through. It’s 2016 tomorrow. I turn 25 in a few days. And I know I wouldn’t be where I’m at without the people who have stand by me and give me the support I needed. And with that being said..2015, in retrospect, not too bad. Because when I think about the cool things that have happened, I realize I really did accomplish a lot. For starters, my band Strangers Now reunited. My best friend in the world Matt found 2 amazing people, Dylan and Clay, to help us carry the torch of SN and revamp something that meant the absolute world to me. We wrote new music and I finally had that outlet I used to depend on for my sanity back again.

>I maintained being in 3 bands at once. Dissention took a little break, but Freak Out was full force. And the guys in that band, Chris, Kevin, Davo, and David Green have all become incredibly close friends the entire time.
I saw a ton of my favorite bands. I played a ton of awesome shows. I saw the STL Hardcore scene turn into something amazing again. I met a bunch of new wonderful people. I saw a few of my favorite comedians. And discovered a new obsession of comedy, specifically with the Comedy Bang Bang podcast. Which has sparked a new possibly hobby and life path as I’ve been working on pursuing comedy.
Bad things happen to us all. Some know how to handle it more than others. On the surface, I didn’t do a good job handling my issues. Everything good in your life happens without you realizing how crucial and therapeutic it really is.
So for 2016, I encourage everyone I know and maybe even don’t know, embrace the positives in your life. I know “life ain’t posi” and god have I truly learned that. But when you cherish everything any ounce of goodness that comes your way, instead of letting it happen and pass by without acknowledging it, it can really really help.
