It's very rare for schools in Australia to have cafeterias and proper meals. People sit wherever they want throughout the school grounds in their friend groups eating lunches bought from home. My school had lots of picnic tables around the school and a couple of courtyard areas for people to congregate around but my group (around 17-20 people) just sat on the ground and on some benches in a hallway
There will be a 'tuckshop' that food like meat pies, sausage rolls, wedges, 2 minute noodles, sandwiches, pizza slices, milk, juice, etc but not proper plated meals, and most people won't use it, or if they do, It'll be a once a week thing to treat themselves.
The idea of going somewhere that sells (or provides you) you meals and offers plenty of seating is extremely foreign. Also, the hamburger or turkey gravy.
The hamburger gravy was dark, dark brown sludge. The turkey gravy was bright yellow sludge, with big ass chunks of turkey in it.
All served over a perfectly rounded scoop of almost inedible mashed potatoes.
