why are you all so against wellfare programs?

I will admit that they give people padding to get comfortable and exploit the system, but their existence is beneficial and necessary. There's absolutely no empathy amongst this board/bigots as a whole who have not lived below the poverty line.

My sister and I were fed via food stamps for about a year when my father went bankrupt and lost his job years ago. He was a single dad, so it was necessary. Flash forward to University, where I am attending completely on loans due to not having outside financial assistance. I have worked multiple jobs throughout college which has been difficult, but at one point in time I applied for food stamps because my work wasn't giving me enough hours to pay all of my bills, and it was already hard enough balancing it with school work. I remained on the foodstamps until i got another job and canceled. During that time it was GREAT and I was eating better than I ever had while in school.

TL;DR, wellfare programs are necessary, and if you can turn your shoulder to a poor kid who's parents are either out of work and looking or total fuckups/unable to work - that's just fucking sad.

No empathy for the poor. You people are disgusting.

Humans will naturally seek to provide for themselves. Put a man in an island and he will look for food, build a shelter, and try to survive. Put a man in socialist state and he has no such incentive.
Here are the problems with welfare:
>provides disincentives for people to work
>inefficient: only 2/3 of welfare actually goes to people who need it
The only form of welfare the government should have is soup kitchens and homeless shelters with dozens of beds.

Your one personal experience doesn't prove welfare is necessary anymore than one bad experience negates welfare.

once again, you have zero empathy

you don't approve of them because life has never given you a situation in which they were required. you're ignorant and therefore your opinion is useless.

The more socialised a country becomes the more immigration is needed to sustain the state. As decades of this continue's the native population is slowly dwindled out of existence.

Most socialised countries in the west -
Sweden
Netherlands
Britain
France
Canada

A welfare safety net is OK. A welfare hammock is not.
>>
well something people often overlook while being critical of welfare is that, apart from the obvious supporting of people in need, it re-injects funds into the economy, I think Bush did something like this in 2008 everyone got 200$ or something in a stimulus, i don't recall.

it does have negative aspects as mentioned, idleness, being comfortable with welfare, not contributing to the labourforce of the spending economy, see it isn't "free money" because money isn't free, but, generally people on welfare are marginal and wouldn't know better. but this isn't always the case, plenty of people use it, and there are trends for the government cheese.

It depends on how it's all broken down where you live, but here welfare isn't much, meaning not even enough for the average rent cost let alone food, transport, etc. while you aren't allowed to make any income while on welfare, the bench is hard and uncomfortable; one beam is missing so your ass doesn't displace the weight properly.

Riddle me this: what's more important? That people are all going to work, or that they keep consuming (no matter what)?
>>
>Muh appeals to the emotion!

Don't blame society, blame your stupid fucking parents for not making better life choices and not being more financially secure before having children. The same could also be said not just for your fucking family, but for all the single mothers, welfare queens, and economic migrants/immigrants who bring no economic value to society and are a burden. By and large social welfare programs deincentivize most people to looking for/gain employment (mainly due to the fact that they lose their benefits if they work) which further burdens the economy. Oh, and I hope you are majoring in an in demand (STEM) field in college but a college does not (and has never) guaranteed employment. Society is run on pragmatism and rationality, not empathy you fucking child.

Oh, and this is coming from someone who grew up poor and was raised by a single mother.

>Mutual aid was a foundation of social welfare in the United States until the early 20th Century. Early societies not only shared material resources, but often advanced social values related to self-reliance and moral character. Many fraternal organizations were first organized as mutual aid societies at a when government on the state and local level supplemented private aid societies more than the converse of this being true. In 1890, 112,000 American residents lived in private charitable institutions, while only 73,000 resided in public almshouses. Towards the latter part of the nineteenth century, public aid was reduced as it was seen as contributing to sloth and dependency while private aid was judiciously provided with greater checks for reform and recovery.[2] Writing in 1890, Jacob Riis, commenting on the extent of private charity, says: "New York is, I firmly believe, the most charitable city in the world. Nowhere is there so eager a readiness to help ..."[3]

>your tax dollars
see, they aren't yours, this is why it's tax. and to boot you're implying your taxes go directly to fund someone on welfare for a year, and not say reserve for your own. as if that's how it's done.

welfare sucks, there's nothing to be proud of, it's a waste of time blah blah blah, but, check this, the human is an animal imported from his native environment of clean water, deer, fish, wild shit, even farms, he cannot sustain himself/herself in a concrete maze without the magical substance of money, he cannot construct a hut or clean his clothes in the river, ride a horse, elephant or buffalo cart. it would be cruelty to animals to let a declawed, toothless tiger loose downtown, but, we're not animals, chode.

I am a Jack London Socialist.
>Socialism is not an ideal system, devised by man for the happiness of a life; nor for the happiness of all men; but it is devised for the happiness of certain kindred races. It is devised so as to give more strength to those certain kindred favored races so that they may survive and inherit the earth to the extinction of the lesser weaker races. The very men who advocate socialism may tell you of the brotherhood of all men, and I know they are sincere, but that does not alter the law.

All welfare should require 40 hours per week of terrible government labor like picking up trash or cleaning septic tanks.

There is no social movement from those who have a legit need of those programs to prevent abuse of those programs. So those who pay up and doesn't benefit from them gets mad and the simplest and most effective rallying point is to just scrap it altogether.
>>
>>67722167
I'm not necessarily opposed to welfare programs or spending on programs to combat poverty so long as they're kept in their proper scope. Unemployment insurance is a valid use of the welfare state, but most of the money put toward welfare should be targeted for investment. What if, instead of free money, we put that funding toward infrastructure? I miss the WPA. The New Deal was awesome. It's several aspects of the Great Society that I disagree with.

I got married in 01. Had 2 kids. Divorced in 05. Wife got kids, i paid child support, did everything court told me to do. She refused visits demanded more money etc.

I kept track of all her bullshit with recordings and records from social workers and shit. I got custody later that same year (still have them).

Went down for some of this welfare i hear about.

Oh hello sir, you...want TANF and WIC? Well you see, wic means WOMEN and Infant Children i'll need to ask my boss. You can't get TANF because you work.

What about to help pay babysitter???

SORRY SIR YOU GET JACK SHIT CAUSE YOU HAVE A PENIS.

I did get WIC for a while however. Never did get ANY fucking cash assistance cause of that fucking penis i have.

They offered me some shit liek 30/month in food stamps and I told them to fuck off. I'm not going to fill out a massive form every couple months for that and feel weird about it each time (cause penis).

I did buy foodstamps for 50 cents on the dollar from some native woman I knew. Fuck we ate steaks and shit all year man. Thanks guvment.

TL:DR women get cash, men don't very often. Best to just get a new woman to hlep you raise your kids as soon as possible.

We got by just fine on charities before major welfare implementation in the 60's.

How's it feel to know that only 1/3 of your tax dollars going to food stamps actually become food stamps?

Charities and churches filled the same function with 92% efficiency.
