I'm actually glad this thread came up so I could get this off of my chest.
I honestly haven't been patriotic in years ever since I laccepted that every facet of contemporary American society is made to alienate and disenfranchise me but coupled with this is the fact service members simply demand that you sing their praises if only because they put in their years of service. For example, I have a friend whose a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps who tried to go for Marine Recon but actually drowned and had to be resuscitated during training. Now he's a reservist and acts like he's tough shit even though the only real action he's seen was the inside of a mess hall.
I'm sure all of you have similar stories. But I have only met a few former service men, mostly old veterans and Navy and Air force guys, who were actually pretty humble and cool after they transitioned to civie life. From what I understand its mostly Army grunts and Marines who seem to have this mile wide entitlement complex. Like, if you complain about tuition or healthcare being to expensive they always reply with "hurr durr you should have enlisted." It's ridiculous.

Former Marine here. I totally agree. Most former Marines I know are total fucking douche bags. They never shut the fuck up about their time in the Corps and they continue to wear their EGA (eagle, globe, and anchor) insignia all the time. The truth is, being a Marine was the best they will ever do. They were in shape, traveling the world, getting laid all the time, and everyone was always telling them how awesome they were.
Once they got back to real life all that shit went away and they found out they were just a normal loser like everyone else.
