Cuba is a actually good example. They were self sufficient in many stuff, and their healthcare was top notch. All this while on embargo by virtually all neighbooring states. the main issue with venezuela is not its left leaned goverment but the shitty leftist and socialist economic policies they implemented. Price controls, unaudited expenditures and one hell of a shitty social support programs (pretty much the free shit crap) has really fucked up that country, they have a huge inflationary problem also product of their shitty economic measures.
Venezuela should be the poster child of why a "planned" or centralist economy is always destined to be doomed, you can pretty much take a book of Hayek and go chapter by chapter verifiying where shit went wrong.
Now, I live in a country whose GDP is about USD 50bil yearly, so you can imagine my face when I got notice that due to corruption Venezuela has lost over USD 250bil during the last 10 years.
The venezuelan oposition is also part of the problem, they has been quite divided and in some ways they have been "enabling" the leftist fuckers in power every know and then.
Chavez was a very charismatic leader, i give him that, Maduro is not, he's the equivalent of having Aunt Viv replaced in the third season of the Fresh Prince of Bell Air, they are both nigreesses but its not the same.
Finally this is a cautionary tale of why socialism is a disease and in the words of Hayek a "cognitive error", you can't control an economy, let the market control itself.

I know that some niggers here will desire to throw some heat at me for this comment, but let me elaborate.
Take Ecuador for example they have no control over their monetary policy due Ecuador being a dolarized economy. Also they have the "blessing" of having an Economist as president, despite the fucker being a leftist cunt.
So, it didn't take a mere second for Correa to understand that he couldn't rollback the dolarization policies implemented by past goverments without seriously fucking up his economy.
Ecuador implemented a price control, similar to the one implemented in Panama, the price control is a sort of parallel price control for some 50+ products, while i am not in favor of this despite being a measure to control speculation, i do have to agree that the goverment here and there have worked closely with producers to make sure they don't get the shaft.
Panama is a good example of having 2 leftist goverments whose economic policies pretty much boosted the economy, in 96-2000 we got an economist as president and he pretty much made every possible effort to liberalize the economy, in 2004-2009 we got the same left leaned party having both the Assembly and the Presidency (full control) and the economic policies they implemented were also leaned toward liberalization, which worked pretty nicely for us.

Hayek did also stress that the government had a role though. He said it's their job to brutality enforce fair play and remove any barriers to entry. It is the role of government to make sure unnatural monopolies never prop up.

The American system is better in this case because it allows debate and choice for both parties. Personally if I was working for a company for 3 months, I don't really care if they fire me in that time or not, and whether or not they have a reason to do so doesn't bother me. This benefits students and those who just need short term work periods, so that companies don't have to deal with a shit tonne of red tape to get rid of them when they're no longer needed.
Zero days of vacations are the same, red tape kills start ups and small business like nothing else.
