Obama nominates Merrick Garland, who wants to overturn D.C. vs. Heller, which guarantees Americans' rights to own firearms.
>>
>>67653879
There's a simple solution if it's overturned, and it involves bullets.
>>
If Garland is appointed, the Supreme Court now has enough anti-gunners to remove D.C. vs. Heller. Every anti-gun case that will go all the way to the SC can now pass and will be enforced at the federal level.

>Assault Weapons Ban
>Magazine restrictions
>Limits to amount of ammunition at home
>No more CCW
>Weapons must be stored in safes, separate from ammunition.
>>
>>67653879
If he even gets a hearing this will kill his nomination, and he's not getting a hearing.

"Garland, currently the Chief Judge of the Washington, D.C. Court of Appeals, is viewed by some to be left-leaning on gun control. In a 2007 case, he voted to review a restrictive gun law that had previously been shot down. The law included a requirement for guns to be kept unloaded and disassembled, unless they were being kept at a place of business or were being used for legal recreational activities. "

Better for Obama to nominate a moderate and have the republicans consider that person than wait until Hillary gets elected and nominates ultra leftists.

The republican party once again overestimated their support and was overconfident in assuming a republican would win. At this point it's more unlikely than ever that a republican will win in november, so the senate has essentially shot themselves in the foot.

I don't really understand why this is such an outrageous contentious thing. The supreme court is a tad hamstringed by having an even number of judges, but they can last a year, presumably. Unless some serious Washington backroom shit goes down, there's a pretty predictable outcome to all this.

top lel. No matter your political opinion this is the best guy Obama could've picked to be a moderate voice on the Court. The Republican Senate has to decide now if it wants to wait out this guy and risk an appointment from Hillary if the Republican nominee doesn't win, or go with the safe guy in this and go back on their bitching about not giving a hearing at all. There is nothing moderate about someone who intentionally undermines the constitution.

There is no such thing as a moderate justice. Justices do not get the benefit of opinion. They rule on the LAW and only the LAW.

There is no moderate, only degrees of corruption and how far you will deviate from the law to achieve personal goals that apply to everyone.

How's it been wrongly interpreted?
>"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Since you need to be able to form a militia to prevent tyranny (implied to be both internal and external threats), the people (in the modern context there only limit on who qualifies is their citizenship) have an unlimited right to bear arms, and this shall not be infringed.

Only it hasnt.

200 years ago I could carry a pistol on my hip and have a cannon in my front yard. You do those things and you will be arrested and convicted immediately.

We don't have to look for interpetation, we can just look at how things were applied, and what people were allowed to do.

There's a federal ban on Marijuana and Colorado did it anyway.

And if that's the case, and the people agree, then several senators and congressmen will be replaced this cycle and during midterms. Then the judge will be passed.

Wow, it's almost like we actually have a system of government with checks and balances instead of some old cunt making her people the cuckholds of sandniggers.
>>
>>67659515
Leftists do the same thing with sanctuary cities, where they refuse to follow federal law on immigration. Naturalization and immigration is a power explicitly granted to Congress in the Constitution, unlike regulating marijuana, and the left still ignores it.

The good news is that if the fed tried to take your guns, states like Montana and Wyoming would absolutely tell them to fuck off.
>>
>>67670384
If Garland does get put on the court I fully expect many more Firearms Freedom Act style pieces of legislation to be passed by states. Likely with provisions similar to Alaska's that prevent state or local law enforcement from co-operating with federal authorities and maybe a few hardcore ones that obligate the state police to arrest federal agents trying to enforce laws.

Leaving the court a man short for no good reason.

When people ask a politician why they are doing something, they need to be able to explain in adult talk or they look stupid. Stalling the confirmation of a qualified and capable judge makes them look like children, or idiots.

They are never getting the presidency back. You understand that don't you?

Only it's not.

Even within the states listed as having open carry, local governments frequently ban the practice.

I don't need a license to practice a right. It is still restricted in those states, almost always with specific laws prohibiting carry within a certain distance of schools, parks and other places that make open carry completely inpracitcal.

The states you have in red are nearly half the population anyway.

It is a lot worse than it looks. You have to keep fighting or they will chip away at it.
