if this was ghana or togo, sure, something could be worked out, but this kid is now a little prize for NK. the jewel in their crown. They won't let him go.
and you didnt' say special forces but that is likely the only solution that has any chance of working. and i'd put that chance at about 1000 to one. But the US govt won't even do that. Even if it is successful, NK could well regard such an op as an act of war. The kids not worth it.

This was argued by Gustav Radbruch (German lawyer) after WW2 to justify the charges of German officers and officials that were collaborating in the Holocaust. Their actions were not illegal by German Law but they were against common sense so to speak.
The same argument was made after the fall of the Berlin wall in the early 90's and was used to charge East German officials whose deeds were according to East German law at the time.
In my opinion the same principles apply to North Korean law. In our minds we know what's right regardless of what the written law says.
