So my raging leftist teacher had us watch a movie about the effects of big bad oppressive capitalism on the food industry. Is the movie redpilled or another leftist attack on capitalism without showing the other side of the coin?

He said at one point "See, this is capitalism!" when the chickens were being mass hoarded in those storage facilities, but then said it was because of the deregulation of the food industry (which I suspect to be an outright lie, since it's the big companies who want the industry to be regulated, so small farmers and producers can't afford all the chemicals they pump into the animals).

What do, /pol/? Was the movie redpilled or not?

There is definitely truth to some of the retoric

But it is retoric

>the other side of the coin?
The otehr side of the coin is that we live in a society with plentiful (too much) food at rock bottom prices. So much food that we eat ourselves to death.

What started this cancerous trend of blatant propaganda pieces peddled as "documentaries"? Bowling For Columbine?
>>
>>67642080
In his defense, he did skip the parts where the mother was explaining the death of her kid. He said it was "sensationalization" of the problem and not actually a big issue. But then again, he had us watch an interview of a Marxist geograph called David Harvey, so there's that.

I used to work at a cafeteria inside a nursing home, all the employees were working class poor, most had families and bills to pay, and they weren't allowed to eat the food, but the old people could barely eat anything, but the State still required us to serve them a certain amount of food, which amounted to a whole heaping plate 3x a day.

About 80% of it got thrown away at the end. If we didn't put the food in front of them and let them pick at it a little before we threw it all away, the State would fine us tens of thousands of dollars.

I wish I could make everybody understand how stupid the government really is. How even the most good-intentioned thing the government does is done in such a stupid way as to truly do more harm to everybody than good to anybody.

And everything the government does, it's the same.

Which would be the clear cut reality of less than 2% of the population of America feeding the rest at a substantially lower cost than ever before as well as the surplus feeding hundreds of millions of third worlders around the world.

Ask her if she'd rather see millions of poor oppressed third worlders starve to death so she can as a privileged white European eat all organic foodstuffs thanks to her bourgeoisie wealth. Reversing leftist Insanity on themselves is the best way to tackle their Insanity.
>>67642639
This practice is solely done to avoid litigation issues. It was common for grocery stores to send this recently expired food to soup kitchens(this is where the term day old bread comes from) and the like until the Feds put a Swift end to this. Similar to laws that stop you from feeding the homeless and donating hunting kills to soup kitchens/food charities.

It's a guy, but that just reminded me of another thing. Holy fucking shit, he's so dellusional. At the end when everyone was leaving, he was chatting with some people and said how this all happened because the government subsidized the industry.

I'll not try to get in a debate with him because he has me by the balls, but if a classmate asks me what I thought and I reveal my agricultural power level, I'll give him/her this example.

>christ and I thought I saw the lowest of corporate low
The worst of government is always worse than the worst of corporate in reality.

The double caveat is that the government is usually trying to help and with good intentions while corporations are just trying to make a buck.

It goes all the way back to Adam Smith's invisible hand and the fundamental nature of government vs trade.

Businesses fundamentally have to get you to pay for their products voluntarily (unless you're forced to by government see Obama care as an example) so this almost always leads to the product being good otherwise a company will quickly lose reputation and sink into the ground.
Government relies on force for anything they do so they have perverse incentives when doing anything no matter how well intentioned because they are using funds taken through force. This means if they are failing they can just throw more of other people's money at it and in the case like >>67643368
Brings up they have zero cost themselves and even stand to make a shitload of profit if compliance isn't met. The most expensive part of government to this nation isn't what they waste regarding tax dollars it is what they force the private sector to waste at their insane demands.

Some of the worst horror stories of this nature of bureaucracy has to do with the EPA.

the movie is absolute garbage.
I remember watching for a geologic resources class. The teacher was a major leftie as you probably guess.
Anyways, let's examine some of the things shown in that overrated stupid fucking sht of a movie.
The very beginning of the movie shows you their intentions, and being objective is not one of them. Showing farms with a shopped number of factories spewing smoke in the background, while a businessman is walking through the field it's the liberals nightmare, even though the imagery makes no sense except serve the purpose of creating negative connotations without even starting the movie.
As far as I remember, there's this woman who's kid died because of e. Coli. They spent a large portion making us feel bad for her, which is okay, it's a tragic situation. Then shown us how they're preparing themselves, moving around D.C.. I still didn't know what the fuck they're advocating. After more bullshit that only a bleeding heart cuck would be so moved that he would agree without question for what this woman is doing, they tell us that she's trying to get a bill passed in the name of her son that says that we should completely shut down any farm where e. Coli had originally came from, in the case somebody from public gets sick from it. They go on, without explaining why this is good or bad. I could think of a few reasons why this would be not a great option. But the filmmakers didn't even bother explaining why it's good in the first place, just portray it as being inherently good and that evil republicans are stopping her.
The one section of the documentary where they talk about how these factories are exploiting people, I found to be the most ridiculous. They literally show regular Spanish people, literally smiling as they work, while saying that they're exploited. That's it. No footage of these people being forced to work there, being treated bad, or any of the sort. Just Spanish people working.

>this all happened because the government subsidized the industry.
This isn't wrong.
The reason you see corn syrup used in so much of American food products is because the government massively subsidizes corn as well as a long list of other things. Something free market supporters have always opposed but is still blamed on capitalism because somehow mercantilist government interventionism is the same as capitalism despite every supporter of capitalism since Adam Smith has opposed such practices.

Hell the water crisis in California is due to the government subsidization of water which kept water prices extremely low despite a quickly dropping supply and again this is capitalism's fault despite the fact that if the government wasn't subsidizing this water use the prices would have rose dramatically which would have lead to farmers of extremely water intensive crops such as avocados and Various nuts to die out in favor of more water efficient crops.

For example the EPA's budget is just under 8 billion a year but their insane levels of ever increasing regulation cost the American economy nearly 400 billion dollars a year.

John stossel has done a few episodes to point out some specific fucked up situations they've caused

Well if you want to look at what socialism does to the food supply just look at North Korea.

Or 1990s Cuba.

Or 1980s Germany.

Or 1950s China.

Or 1940s USSR.

I think it has to do with size. Too many cooks spoils the dish. They have to come up with a standard that works for the worst of the thousands of nursing homes they have, but sucks for the rest. I bet some shitty nursing home in Harlem or where-ever would see its patients die if they weren't forced to actually take care of them.

Shit like this is why I fear the EU. Already they want to apply the same rules to dozens of different countries, from fiercely independent UK to no-socialism-ever-again Polan. Hell, we have France and Germany bitching and moaning about our coffeeshops, because their citizens travel to our country to buy weed. You know, because of that whole Schengen deal everyone loved.

Our drug laws work fine for us. But a federalised EU would ban them. Them and lots of other things. Fuck large government.

On a related note, I couldn't believe my ears when one of my friends said he thinks Rompuy is a great guy. As in, he actually admires that thieving fuck. Rompuy is one of those people I'd shoot through the fucking head without a second thought.

The worst part of the USSR is that Ukraine has some of the most fertile soil in the entire world. So much so that nazi Germany was quite literally taking trainloads of Ukrainian soil back to Germany for agriculture.

Reminds me of a Milton Friedman quote. "If you put government in charge of managing sand in the Sahara desert you'd have a shortage of sand in a few years"
>>
>>67645012
W-what wad wrong with food in Germany? We didn't have exotic fruit in East Germany, but other than that everything we needed.

>>67641626
>since it's the big companies who want the industry to be regulated,

This is correct. I have a humber of small farmers in my family. The large corporations set standards like the pen must be X big and have X facilities on hand. They know that the small farmer in co-op or whatever cant compete with that. So, to survive, the small farmer starts producing for teh large corp or goes out of business al together. It is big-ag that makes standards better for animals.

These people act like the farmers would beat their animals and abuse what makes their livelihood if it werent for those darn liberals. The people who fall for this are liberals in major cities who have never even seen a field before.

To top it off, they showed footage of the immigrants being arrested by immigration police. People in handcuffs, taken from their home. We hear how evil this is by a union leader. Then in one sentence they tie it in with, "the food industry is the one deporting these people". After they said that, I thought, "this got interesting..", but they ended the segment. Right there. Only a fucking sentence and absolutely no proof or investigative work to prove their point. Their point was: Factories exploit people, here's working people, deported people, I bet the factories did this, unions are good. That's it.

Then they went on to talk about that the cheapest food is fast food, which I don't know what world they live in because I live off $6 worth of food a day by cooking myself. Sure, I'm only confined to chicken and ground beef, and whatever else on sale, broccoli and rice and pasta. Nothing fancy, but it's not fast food. That shit is expensive. If you are worried about money, and think that you are financially restricted to fast food, then there is no doubt in my mind that you're a lazy piece of shit. Seriously, fuck you. But the documentary kept showing a poor family being fat, because they're forced to only eat fast food, apparently. The cherry on top was when they consistently said the liberal's divine word "racism". Apparently, because the poor are overwhelmingly not white, means that the system is racist. I can't even fathom the cuck mentality that would think this is a good argument. The word racism has so many meanings nowadays I don't know what it means. This same class introduced us to the concept of "environmental racism". All the white cucks nodding their heads in agreement. I can't even...
Well, that's all I'm willing too spend my time on. There's more shit from that documentary. But this should give you a good idea of what you're in for. Try not become a cuck. Good luck.
>>

Thanks based burger. I'll keep that in mind and disregard this "documentary" as another lefitst aggitation tactic
>>
>>67645936
Yeah, I really wonder where idiots get this idea that the poor are being forced to subsist on a diet of Mickey D's. It's complete fucking insanity. Literally everyone visits supermarkets and fast food chains, and literally everyone knows cooking your own food is cheaper.

But even then, I had this socialist cuck tell me that same piece of bullshit: "Americans are fat because they can only eat fast food because muh capitalism".

I had to point out to this idiot that one of the cheapest meals I ever made, was also one of the healthiest. Because it was beans, rice, and vegetables.

And shit, if this is true, you'd think the Third World would be awash in fast food, seeing as how they always have the get the absolute cheapest food. But nope, rice and beans.

That's the thing that keeps surprising me about the left: The doublethink. They can champion causes that are patently, obviously not true. It's second nature to them. It's like some weird cult.
