The third question might be easy, control of the world and the human race. If you look closely many of this cards have different effects being some of them focused on direct attacks and other doing support and defense.

But maybe that's not true and the ones playing are important people behind the shadows, or people who might not look important but could actually be pulling the strings.
That last sentence could answer the second question.
We are the pieces, and like in a chess game not a single piece is going to harm the player, pieces will only harm other pieces.
It seems almost every single card is coming true. So even though many of them are kinda obvious, it could be interesting to see not the big ones as the "world war three" as obvious for a near future. Think about it this way the strongest the card is, the more you will save it either for the end of your last play, or when you have no other option to choose.
