I used to be the same way and watched the daily show and colbert report when I was younger all the time. What happens is that they get all of their information and views second-hand, like they're told rush limbaugh is a bigot or trump is hitler and they don't know anything about these people and have never even heard them speak or know any of their positions, they just take the second-hand information at face value and assume it must be true.
That guy has probably been told all his life that white people are racist and men are sexist etc etc. and then when he's actually challenged with "give me an example", he says "i don't know" because he honestly DOESN'T know. he was just told this was how it is, so he just accepts it. he's never had to think about it or question whether it's true or not.
Then when he's finally challenged on it, he only then realizes that he actually doesn't have any facts to back up his opinions and it all falls apart.
