Köln is full of bars, brauts, and pork. Jesus Karneval was a spectacle even to me, and I've lived in Bangkok before.
In all fairness I moved out of Köln in July 2015 so the refugee thing wasn't in full swing then. But when I talk to my expat friends still living there (I ALWAYS ask them about the refugees), they say it still isn't noticeable.
