Your lack of faith is disturbing. Nobody will change if we can't take down people like Soros. Naming him explicitly was a good move. This isn't exactly true. At the time, the UK was trying to fight the laws of economics in order to make the impossible happen with their currency. Soros (along with basically the entire international banking community) bet that the UK would fail. Soros won his bet.
The lesson here is not that Soros tanked the British pound, but that politicians can't ignore the economic reality of a situation just because the truth is inconvenient. Lots of people (on both the left and right) warned the UK they were making a terrible mistake, but the politicians of the time marched forward like lemmings to their doom. Soros made a quick buck off their stupidity.
