it's not that they want to win. they just want to throw together whatever last ditch effort they can to make sure trump doesn't get elected. they already realize that they can't win in the brokered nomination, so they're trying to figure out if there's a way to sneak an "independent" candidate into the race to steal votes from Trump. My personal opinion is there must be an internal battle going on to decide whether they suck it up and go along with Trump, or they suck it up and go along with Cruz.
