Can somebody explain how this man is a viable candidate?
To me it seems his main method of gaining support is through evoking strong emotion.
His policies aren't really that great when you look at them and whenever they're called into question, he appeals to authority instead of relying on the strength of the policy. Why are people voting for him? Are we this easily swayed?

I don't think he's dumb, just a piece of shit.
>>
>>67625205
Seriously
Any takers?
I can't imagine why somebody would vote for this guy. I want your reasoning
>>
>>67625620
Really? Nothing?
So there is no reason?
I expected at least a half-assed "because he's going to make America great again" response like the ones I get from my simpler friends
>>
He had me at wall, reformed healthcare, and having never been tainted by the capital building.

He's far too authoritarian for me to want to jump his bones, but small government politicians can't seem to attract a crowd.
>>
I just want Trump to skullfuck normies desu senpai.
>>
>>67626158
The whole illegal immigration debate is highly alarmist and most people are pretty ill-informed on the matter. Plus, we've had walls on borders in history and they always fall. We should be working towards a unified world.
His healthcare reform is insufficiently explained and appears to create a very large deficit. It's funny that the "how are you going to pay for it" rhetoric only applies to Bernie.
>>
>>67626536
What if, and i know this is crazy to suggest, people paid for their own healthcare?
>>
>>67626536
Also whats there to be ill informed about illegal immigration? There are over 10 million people here who shouldnt stealing jobs, but somehow enforcing the law is wrong?
>>
>>67625205
I'm highly uneducated on the most basic of matters regarding the political process or any of the Presidential candidates. So being the average American voter, I think I am qualified to answer your question:

He's Trump, a symbol of business success, he has money, it appears that he is "funding his own campaign", he gets a lot of attention from established politicians who actively resent him, said established politicians who are smooth talkers generally resented by the silent majority of Americans, he is an outlet for racial and socioeconomic tensions for those silent, he's not-PC, he represents the resentment towards the establishment and towards the younger generations, and he smears his opponents in a efficient way. He's going to make America Great Again.
>>
>>67625205
How about you tell us about your "viable candidate " you've got waiting in the wings apparently

Trumps not perfect or near it but hes better than every other person running thats for sure
>>
>>67627020
But none of those things matter. None are indicative of a better America, either.
He may not represent the establishment but he represents shameless profiteering and big money.
It's trading one evil for another.

Things that lobbyists paid for.
>>
>>67627136

>>
What alternative do you muricunts even have to trump?
Hillary who has no policy platform other than "I have a vagina vote for me"?
Sanders who is a commie with one foot in the grave?
Cruz who is an evangelical oddball?
Kasich who has even less of a profile than Jeb?

Trump is a meme candidate tbqh. Big words is all he needs. Would vote for him tbqh just for the banter he provides.
>>
>>67627254
okay, heres a perfectly legitimate reason right here. You couldnt even name another candidate whose better just now, pretty easy to hate on everyone and be safe but not so easy to pick a side is it eh?

Also the fact that his opinions arn't bought and sold is a pretty good one to me.

Also he cares about the real issues and isnt some faggy open border lets all get along candidate. He's outlined why America sucks right now and how to fix it.

You're not thinking as the average person would. He tells you the problems and then he offers "solutions" that are pretty "radical" from what everyone else is offering, even if it could be better for the country and could help the people or not.

You also have to understand the presidential election is just one big reality show, and people always like when someone puffs themselves up and says things they think they want to hear. In reality, the president doesn't have as much power as any candidate would like you to believe and thinking they do shows a gross misunderstanding of our government.

If people actually gave a shit about the country they'd take more interest in their governors and in their congressmen.

tl;dr it's all a big shitshow and whoever blows the most smoke is favoured in the eyes of the retarded, unwashed masses

Trump's policies regarding a secure border, support for legalization of medical marijuana (and recreational at a state level), deportation of illegal immigrants, keeping Gay Marriage a states issue (which is the best way to do it in compliance with the constitution), and general plans for healthcare are what captivates me the most.

Most people on this website won't put in enough effort to type out why they support him.

I like the fact that he's charismatic, tough, and he does not take anybody's bullshit. I'm personally tired of politicians pandering to spoiled millennials and leftists who try and control what people can and can't say through the media. Trump doesn't care about feelings, he cares about the law, bringing back jobs from overseas, and actually using the military we spend an enormous amount of our budget on.

He can't be bought by special interests, so I know he will be able to implement these changes without coercion or pressure for compromise when it comes to bringing jobs back from overseas.

Welcome to democracy. It is now approaching it's final form.

By the way, this is why the founder's of the country limited voting to a select group of people and instituted an electoral college. The Left gradually abolished those. A media-genius billionaire was not what the anticipated to occur; they thought they could get all the poor and the minorities to vote for Leftist policies.

>The whole illegal immigration debate is highly alarmist and most people are pretty ill-informed on the matter.

Say something with substance.
His policy on the wall is effective as our current wall is absolute shit and doesn't cover ground hardly at all. Illegal immigrants are an economic and disproportionally a social burden.

>Plus, we've had walls on borders in history and they always fall.

When has that ever been the fault of the concept of the wall itself and not a failure of the quality of the wall?

>We should be working towards a unified world.

We should, but we should do it through effective means. Strengthen immigration and provide a path to citizenship while also trying to keep out those will not abide by the law and intend to come illegally.

>His healthcare reform is insufficiently explained and appears to create a very large deficit.

It doesn't cause any manner of deficit and it costs less overall (to a massive degree) than Sanders' Single Payer Plan. What is insufficiently explained you'll have to tell us.

What I support of his is the effort to undo our decades of horrid trade deals and economic plans while focusing heavily on economic reform to increase the wealth of all Americans. The vast majority of his plans have a basis on just that. My main concern with him is his foreign policy and the lack of detail on a few economic issues (minimum wage for instance).

I'll copy pasta earlier thread. I'll post again tomorrow. This is my new agenda.

If they're opinion makers come on the side of Trump it'll be easier. If people talk about the sense of voting for Trump over Hillary in that he will do far better on their core issues (poverty, healthcare, foreign policy) it may do some good.

These are people who dedicate a substantial portion of their lives to politics. They enjoy it and fighting for Hillary because Trump is MUH RACIST makes absolutely no sense. Trump is not a hateful person. You need to be somewhat realistic about race to avoid the train heading off the rails which is exactly what has happened in trade (working class people need working class work).

We've just replaced industrial jobs for drug-dealing. Its killing our kids and making the poor totally rehabilitated. If Reddit is to take a calculated risk they need to challenge this oligarchy. They are sucking the blood out of everything. Goldman "I don't care who wins between Jeb and Clinton" Sachs is the symbolic high point. There is so little difference in just how insane and evil these establishment candidates are.

I probably hate the Republican oligarchy as much as Reddit. I know high-information how evil they truly are.

You may think Trump is an asshole but he'll be YOUR asshole in that he'll be working for you and all Americans instead of oligarchs, plutocrats, and God nose what shadowy ideological force lurks behind the country. You guys don't have real skin in the game anymore so lets be reasonable. Caring about white people TOO makes you politically incorrect but it does not make you Hitler. It makes you American. What good is there in hating yourself? Time for this country to come together again. Trump is the only one who could feasibly make this possible.

>>
>>67628815
Independent minded Dems and independent minded Republicans need to unite behind Donald Trump and give a resounding message to the establishment. Lets tell them that the time for FUCKING US OVER IS OVER. NO, it's not over, Reddit!!! Make the right choice for your countrymen. A vote for Clinton is a vote for everything you hate. Keep an open mind and help us make the country great again, Reddit. With this coporatist shill media operating as 24/7/365 anti-Trump propaganda we need all the help we can get!

Good. Sanders supporters are actually becoming coherent now. You all should come over to Trump. Please hear me out.

Only one who is not subordinated to Israel war lobby (AIPAC, AjC, etc), big Goldman Sachs banks, predatory H1b1 Visa tech companies screwing great Americans. Trump is the only who will prevent these diabolical drugs like crack and heroin from continuing to kill and ruin our working class people. Trump is the only one who will stop illegal immigration and end birthright citizenship which will help the poor and keep the country white ripe for the kind of socialism you'd like to see. No, Hispanics and Africans who betrayed you in this election are not going to care about the environment and womens pay gap, folks. That's only you.

He is the only one will take on the country's ripping us off on this psychotic trade deals set up by the corporatist neocons and demcucks like HILLARY CLINTON who we all despise. Time to acknowledge Trump gives us the best shot in taking this country where you'd like to see it go. Trump is the only one who can bring us a real healthcare system one that doesn't cater to big Pharma and big insurance companies. Eliminating competition is exactly what these bloodsucking corporations want! And that is exactly what Obamacare does FIRST.

If you had a basic knowledge of American geography, you would know that the reason the wall doesn't cover all of the land area is because there is a massive fucking desert that serves as a natural border between the US and Mexico. Ranchers in the southwest leave water in remote areas because of the amount of immigrants who die of dehydration trying to cross hundreds of miles of desert by foot. Even if you built a wall, who would patrol it? Even if Mexico paid for the wall (they won't), who's going to pay for the additional border patrol?

Apart from Mr Trump's financial education and business successes in life, his campaign was adamantly a pro-country populist nationalist campaign.

The difference here, say between him and Cruz, is that Trump was not wearing his conservatism on his sleeve, and trying to convince every person that he was the only conservative in the room. He was talking and promoting the greatness of our country, not the principles of the party.

Cruz's campaign is centered on himself with a pro-party agenda, whereas Trump's campaign is centered on fixing and restoring the country and how just great he can make it.

A pro-country populist nationalist message will always appeal across the political spectrum. A pro-party hard right conservative message only appeals to evangelicals and other hard right conservatives.

This is why Trump has such support.

You are right that most people are ill informed but not in the way your angling. The leftist media plays our illegal immigrant problem as some humanitarian issue instead of law breakers which really slights hard working immigrants that go through the proper methods to enter the country and become citizens. I know many immigrant family's including ones from Syria that absolutely loath illegals because they have to pay taxes for people that break the law when they did everything right to come to this country.

The backlash greatly comes from those same dam Mexicans that drop a kid when they get here and still have more loyalty to their shit hole country than America unlike legal immigrants which are some of the most patriotic members of our country.

-The wall is not a literal wall of china but rather an aggressive stance towards border security. Not just mentioning it in one or two debates and leaving it by the wayside.
-He's a nationalist who isn't some reactionary Christian. "Make America Great Again" isn't the obnoxious desire of a santorum or a huckabee to turn the clock back to a leave it to beaver 1950s but simply the goal to make America a more assertive, stronger and more selfish country. I say selfish as a positive because I am not willing to have our country fall on its sword to better other countries by subsidizing their defense, sabotaguing our own economy to solve global warming when the Chinese and Indians and others will be faithless with their promises (and for good reason - I would want the Chinese to do so if I was chinese). The world is the law of the jungle, and even at some level the fucking -Swedes- recognize this considering they are starting to actually harden just the slightest bit towards migrants.
-He is willing and interested in playing hardball in foreign policy in a way that Obama and god forbid Sanders never would. Hillary would but only in the typical globalist way - playing hard with Iran and Russia but not those that take advantage of us in a less overt way.
-Except for Sanders he is the only candidate to take an aggressive stance on protectionism for us and our workers economically. I don't give a shit what snakeoil the globalists want to sell, they and their ilk (of which the Libertarians seem to be a major part. Nothing shook me from ever aligning with them ever again for how many Libertarian think tank or proponents are for open borders) want lower and middle class America to be brought down to the milquetoast levels of other third world countries to make us more 'competitive' - which is codeword for make them more money, nothing more.

>Can somebody explain how this man is a viable candidate?
I'm pretty sure what you're gonna read next will highlight how narrow your concept of "viability" is.
>To me it seems his main method of gaining support is through evoking strong emotion.
>Implying other candidates aren't
Just because Shillary appeals to "moderate" emotions, this doesn't mean she's not appealing to emotions.
Think of how the Jew media are trying to destroy Trump. Isn't this appeal to emotions?
Everybody, GOP or Dem included, is well aware that people who vote because of calculus and informed choice are the smallest slice of the cake. All of the candidates know very well that the vast majority votes with their guts, and that's exactly what all campaigns are about: appeal to guts.
Some have stronger guts, other have weaker guts, so each candidate aims at a certain slice of the population and hopes the ones they aim for will be the majority.
>His policies aren't really that great when you look at them and whenever they're called into question, he appeals to authority instead of relying on the strength of the policy. Why are people voting for him? Are we this easily swayed?
See above.
>I don't think he's dumb, just a piece of shit.
And is the concept of "piece of shit" incompatible with the concept of "viable candidate"? I don't think so.

You really believe this?

Both dems and reps have built an empire of bureaucrats they don't want to dismantle, mainly because most of them go back to those positions if they lose the next election. So many American families depend at this point of the size of the state, and every year that passes that number grows.

Republican party, at this point, will only cut superfluous spending without major reforms and consume debt+inflation to reduce taxes instead of to spend.

Democrats= Print money and acquire debt to spend.

Republicans= Print money and acquire debt to cut taxes.

>If you had a basic knowledge of American geography, you would know that the reason the wall doesn't cover all of the land area is because there is a massive fucking desert that serves as a natural border between the US and Mexico.

Yes, and Trump has even said that we don't need walls because of natural borders. To quote Trump:

>“It’s $8 billion.… And of the 2,000 [miles], we don’t need 2,000, we need 1,000 because we have natural barriers...

Nothing in my post says anything one way or another of the wall either. Regardless, is your main issue really getting people to patrol a 1000 miles of border that we are generally patrolling anyway? Drones and border patrol. Our existing infrastructure.

>Even if Mexico paid for the wall
>(they won't)

Very unlikely. While Mexico is big on being anti-Trump, he brought up the idea of actual trade wars because of the deficit we are already losing in trade with Mexico. As trade with America is very important to Mexico's economy (as is China's) this is very possible that he could strike a deal.

However foreign relations then are my major concern. As other countries are fucking us over it seems right to act on it but I'm not sure how they would react.

We've had a lot to do with Trump's success, man. Most importantly, we rigged the early polling that made it socially acceptable to vote for Trump. For it to become socially acceptable was a huge part in his emergence. Think what you want but /pol/ is an important force. We are the only true revolutionaries. Sandersism is a product of cradle to grave subversion from media and education. /pol/ is for people who lack herd instinct and don't care whether they are liked or not.

-Whenever the globalists champion some new trade deal the most important question should be "How does this directly benefit the individual American". GDP per capita doesn't mean shit, how much more the elites can be getting can mitigate the average diffused across the rest of the populace. Singapore's GDP per capita is ranked 3rd in the world, yet has one of the greatest gaps between rich and poor in the world.

Hillary flip flops harder than Kerry ever did. She was for TPPA before she was against it. She was for NAFTA before she was against it. She'll be for whatever future trade deal is being made if she takes office unless it's close to election season in which case "lol I don't give a fuck". Unless a trade deal has empirical evidence to support directly improving the lives and income of a majority of Americans affected by the trade deal, they can fuck off.

>>67629463

I can't imagine that Trump is literally going to make a brick and mortar wall across the border with China. Because by reducing that deficit from a new trade agreement, or protective tariffs in the meantime, and getting tax revenue back from companies that make things in Mexico and sell to us instead of making the damn things here, it would be in effect having Mexico pay for the damn wall from the income we lose overall from the trade deficit.
Saying that Mexico will pay for the wall makes for a excellent sound byte and is not to be taken literally.

Then again, it is stupid of me to expect a Swede to understand how government money is created from trade and not having the average worker be taxed to death.

If you want to ask questions, head over to /r/AskTrumpSupporters and annoy reddit with the same questions over and over again.

Any reasonable person who looks at this plan beyond his empty rhetoric can see that "building a wall" will have no effect on immigration. Additionally, Mexican immigration (legal AND illegal) is now such that more people are leaving the US than there are entering. He hasn't explained how he's going to make Mexico pay for the wall when they have repeatedly said this will never happen. A rational person can see that this plan is expensive, unnecessary, but it has great emotional appeal to those who seek a scapegoat when confronted with challenges.

What? Is your flag wrong?

Your rate on income over 75k is 56%, plus another 7%, and then you have some more shoved in the employer side, they pay like 35% of your pay in taxes, and on top of everything you pay like a 25% sales tax.

Like holy fuck, if you wanted to buy 50k worth of stuff in a year, you need to "earn" like 200k in untaxed income before your various personal income taxes, employer paid income taxes on your behalf, sales tax, etc....

Please tell me your metric for reasonable people and the study you used to grasp this info.

>Additionally, Mexican immigration (legal AND illegal) is now such that more people are leaving the US than there are entering.

I'm VERY curious how they get numbers on illegal immigrants. Either way, this is all fine and good. If that's the case there should be less reason to fight the idea of an improved wall.

>He hasn't explained how he's going to make Mexico pay for the wall when they have repeatedly said this will never happen.

He also hasn't expanded much on that "big beautiful gate" on that wall either so it's something we need to press him on.

Based on the fact that undocumented immigration has ceased, yes. Actually, increasing border security is somewhat counterproductive because normally, immigration tends to be circular (immigrants travel back and forth between US and Mexico to visit their families etc). However, when border security is increased, the immigrants north of the border are essentially trapped here.

Trump's campaign will be won sheer, unadulterated spite.

There is a civil war in the left, liberals have forgotten what liberalism is. They've lost touch with the foundations that liberalism is built upon, free speech, freedom of the press, free markets, civil rights, democratic societies, modern liberals have set fire to these ideals in the name of social justice.

The far left has poisoned itself to liberals, because this new and disturbing trend that's been named SJW's have taken to attacking true liberalism as if it were conservatism.

Conservatives however, are far more in touch with the ideals of liberalism than the modern left. So where do the liberals gravitate to, if not those who will build a far more liberal society than the left?

The true liberals are realizing we need a strong hand to smack some sense into the left, we need someone to keep our side on its toes. That man is Trump. The man never backs down, he's always correct, he's always on the offensive, he's a fucking angry, snarling Rottweiler that walks like a man.

Can you imagine Bernie in a debate with trump? That stuttering old fuck trying to appear eloquent next to this bravado fueled machine waving his pendulous balls in his face? Christ, he can't even keep two entitled fat girls from shutting him down his rally mid-speech so they can bitch about people they didn't know getting shot.

Christ, Hillary? You really think the rational man is gonna vote Hillary? Are you a fucking idiot? She's might as well be a snake in a fucking pantsuit. You can't trust a word that falls out of her mouth. All Trump would need to do debating her would be "You say this now, but yesterday you said this, and the day before you said this. Why should anyone believe you?"

The left has gotten fat, weak, lazy and stupid. And Trump is the best soloution to whip them into shape. An enemy makes you strong.

Trump happened basically because of a perfect storm that riled up the white trash portions of the country, who happen to be a huge part of the population. Fox News has been getting their base angry for decades now. This is I think the biggest reason trump happened. And it made the poor white trash racists angry as fuck that a black man won the presidency not once but twice. And again Fox News was there the whole time telling their viewers that no one respects America on the international stage anymore because he's "weak". That they provided no evidence of this doesn't really matter because white trash believes what Fox News says.

And now they think being a loud-mouthed asshole is a great quality in a president. It's hilarious seeing Fox News flip their shit over trump and the state of the Republican Party when they're the main reason things ended up this way. Playing on people's fears and prejudices seems to have backfired on them lol. Makes me sorta happy seeing an institution that exists for the sole reason of promoting the right-wing agenda help to irreparably damage their movement, but at the same time I feel like our way of life is seriously threatened by a potential Donald trump presidency.

Cool, so how about those 11.3 million come 2014 that still exist? Are they a non-issue? Do they not exist? Does the immigration of others out of the country make them not an economic burden?
>>
>>67625205
Yes, of course that's his main method of evoking support.

Because people don't understand politics and they're fucking stupid. If he calmly explained the statistics about immigration and welfare, calmly explained that america needs to manufacture things in order to have jobs, etc.. do you think anyone would listen?

People are emotional creatures and americans in particular have been trained to react emotionally for literally years (ie, through advertising. Drinking a coke is an emotional decision, for example).

Don't think that just because he garners support in this way, that this is how he will be as a president. He absolutely is best candidate in the field.

As for Bernie - he doesn't understand economy. You can tell this because he believes in the $15 minimum wage meme. You don't want yet another president who doesn't get the economy.

Based on immigration trends, it does not make logical sense to spend tens of billions of dollars to build a wall when we already have one. Anyone employing REASON (I.e. a reasonable person) knows that it does not make sense to spend money on something which will return no benefit.

Amd guess what happens when you build that big, beautiful wall? The undocumented immigrants north of the border are more likely to remain in the United States. Please don't tell me you think we should deport them all. Then I'll know that you really are retarded after all.
