If you want a serious answer, social media has accelerated the political climate in a negative way. Movements like Black Lives Matter, while started to better things, have spiraled out of control, promoting extreme reactions on either side. Just look at the university protests. Even if you lean left, it's embarrassing. Pushing out easily digestible slogans has been more popular now than ever, and so that's why it is like it is.
