Celsius:
0 degrees: cold
100 degrees: dead

Fahrenheit
0 degrees: cold
100 degrees: hot

Why would we switch? Same thing for the rest of the imperial system.

Want a rough estimate of what a foot looks like? Look down at your feet. It gets a bit convoluted if you want to visualize 5000 feet. But it still works.

More climates
Salt is effective on roads till 0 degrees
100 degrees is super hot.
That gives a full 100 degress to base temp off of
Metric is between -20 and 40 so you only get about 60 degrees for temp
Also all american measurements are for cooking. Best system for it.

I grew up using Fahrenheit but now my heater, A/C, washing machine, my office's temperature monitoring system, body temperature thermometers, weather reports, and whatever are all in Celsius.

I will point out that it's not hard to get used to it but japanese people seem to get confused when trying to conceptualize things like fevers ("oh no this fever is 37.5 what do we do?" "Nothing because that's barely out of normal range") and temperatures below freezing - it doesn't get that cold here but Fahrenheit gives you a very easy way to recognize between ice cold (32), fucking cold (0) and you-will-die-cold (off into the negatives)

-10 to 40 is the range of temperatures that can sustain human life for any reasonable amount of time in celsius.
In fahrenheit, it's more like -10 to 110.

Insofar as both are measured in degrees (read: with reference to no physically meaningful, absolute 0) it makes more sense to have a system that is tuned to human experience than something arbitrary like water.

>we are made out of water
true, but irrelevant. That fact has little bearing on what range of temperatures is comfortable.

365.25 doesn't divide well.

if it was excactly 360 days like it used to be few thousand years ago before something probably hit the earth and caused the orbit to change sometime at or before 700 bc, it'd be perfectly divisible into 12 months 30 days each, or any other combination.

360 divides pretty nicely in many different ways.

>>
>>67551783
Changing any of that would change the years, and the years, and theduration of the day/week/month/year are never the same, they change all the time. thats why every 4 years there are more days in february. The calendar changed a lot of times since it was created, with new months added and removed. The important religious things are based on things like the duration of the day or position of the stars, because you can't trust the current callendar for important things, that's why the Easter and some important dates are on a different day each year.

>>
>>67551602
Yes, we trade arbitrariness of the system for ease of division. So with length measurements we've got 12 inches to a foot, and 3 feet to a yard and those are your every day lengths. So you can divide a foot in thirds or fourths thanks to the prime factorization of 12 being 2^2 and 3.

With metric your prime factorizations are very bland and that is what makes them easy to learn and much less arbitrary. 10's prime factors are 2 and 5, which is pretty shitty, you're only going to get whole numbers in a few easy cases. Metric basically offloads the work here by relying on your knowledge of what a fraction is as a decimal.

No. Celsius while functional in science is retarded and makes it harder to differentiate between small changes in temperature. Not should we abandon the English system of measurement. Kelvin is the basis for any scientific stuff, one of the seven base units in the International System of Units, and :
K = °C + 273,15
K = (°F + 459,67) / 1,8

See how it's much more complicated with Fahrenheit?

what a retarded argument
The imperial system relies heavily on approximation and rounding. With the decimal system you can quickly work out the specific decimal percentage of a centimeter (or smaller) even if it's not a nice round number.
What do you do if you want to measure something smaller than an inch? Just hope it lines up as a perfect x/12 fraction?

Of course a burgerclap couldn't understand the value of that because >muh tradition

Even if you have an imperial ruler that shows you a third marking, you are still victim of human error and will be some value of nanometers off an exact third. It is statistically impossible to be exact if you're really autistic enough to measure at a microscopic level.

That's just because you're used to it.

In any case, at -40 we're both equally cold.

Switch already. Celsius is the only correct answer, I'll demonstrate:

Say it's 10°C today and yesterday was twice as hot.

In °C, the answer is 2*10°C = 20°C - Correct

In F, it's 2*50F = 100F = 37.7778°C - Wrong

In K, it's 2*283.15K =566.3K = 293.15°C - Completely fucking wrong. Even water vapour boils at those temperatures.

Not if you use Rankine instead of Kelvin.

then

[°R] = [°F] + 459.67

Centigrade becomes more complicated since

[°R] = ([°C] + 273.15) × 9⁄5

The Metric system is so Helvitica

0-100 in fahrenheit approximates the yearly range of temperatures from coldest to hottest days in a temperate clime.

0-100 in centigrade covers a much larger range of actual temperatures. This makes the degrees much larger. 1 degree Fahrenheit closely approximates the smallest amount of change in temperature most people can perceive, 1 degree C is waaay bigger than that however, so you wind up using fractions of a degree.

Of course as someone else said, scientific applications usually need kelvin anyway. But for measurement of everyday temperatures during what most of us think of as everyday life, Fahrenheit is just a better system.
>>
>>67544408
No
>>
We use Fahrenheit and not Celsius because a 0-100 scale of measuring temperature makes a lot more sense to a human. We know that 0 is really fucking cold and 100 is really fucking hot, which makes sense. Celsius, however, is just about how water responds to temperature, and makes no sense when applied to humans. Fahrenheit is for people, Celsius is for water. And i am a people not a water.
>>
Fahrenheit is objectively better
