This show started to air on TV after couple of years again here. I can't believe how much communism there is.
>everything is civilized, no aggression, bad language

This is in a future where food & goods (of any sort at all) can be created spontaneously without any effort thanks to the glories or science.

In a future like that, where that sort or technology exists... People are bound to get shit for free.

But people would still compete to be the best merit wise. People will compete for respect & power in their social settings.

Communists in the next generation era would be anti individual merit & anti individual power in the purist way imaginable, and would be unquestionably psychotic demanding that every individual is equalized and has no privileges... The Borg.

Star Trek takes place in a world that's post-scarcity. They can generate food, and just about anything you would want, on a whim.

No political theory, ideology, or anything of that sort, could possibly replicate the state of Star Trek's society, simply because we live in a reality with finite resources, while they don't.
>>
>>67544156
It's "communism" because it's a perfect future where money has no meaning. Anything, even food, can be "fabricated" with machines in seconds. The crew of the Enterprise don't even earn wages from Starfleet because money is worthless in post-scarcity Earth. They explore solely for the sake of exploration.

>>
Don't judge star trek on tng. That was based off Roddenberry's view of the future without small conflicts we deal with today.

The writers used to fight him all the time because a show about a perfect, civil society was boring as fuck.

And then Roddenberry died and tng got good. Deep Space 9 is better if you're interested in trek politics. Much less of a utopia.

Star Trek isn't the result of Jewish tricks. You have to consider the post scarcity environment of the Trek Universe, with energy and food easily accessed everywhere. Humans do not function with money, yet they stay motivated to work hard and better themselves always. It's weird though because money definitely still does exist. Siskos father works at a restaurant and I'm sure people have to pay for it. Also people in Quarks bar work for small wages and have to pay for their drinks etc.

War between humans is mostly over, but there are tons of conflicts all the time against very fascist style aliens. The Klingons are all about war.

>>
>>67549745
They pretty much do yes.

Ignoring Fusion generators and shit they have.

They can produce Anti Matter at will

As used aboard the USS Enterprise, antimatter is first generated at major Starfleet fueling facilities by combined solar-fusion charge reversal devices, which process proton and neutron beams into antideuterons, and are joined by a positron beam accelerator to produce antihydrogen (specifically antideuterium). Even with the added solar dynamo input, there is a net energy loss of 24% using this process, but this loss is deemed acceptable by Starfleet to conduct distant interstellar operations.

And Romulans literally use singularities aka black holes for engines.

Jesus fuck you people always post these threads.

Star Trek isn't a pro-communism show, it's a virtue promoting show (ex: Hard working, Compassionate, Generous, with Meritocracy and Equal Opportunity, etc.) that takes place in a post-scarcity society (with regards to Earth/Starfleet) so there aren't any expressly advocated political systems.

Political systems are in the show of course, but they take their form through the different species, which tend to be the extremes of various ideologies (ex: Ferengi = Capitalism, Bajoran = Theocracy (somewhat), etc.).

Starfleet itself is simply a blank slate with virtues attached for a reason. There are videos of Roddenbery explaining that they purposely tried to make the show not endorse any particular political ideology.

So I went and googled around a bit.

The Next Gen Technical Manual says on pages 67-68 that they have thirty storage pods with a volume of 100 m^3, for a total supply of 3000 m^3. They also say that antihydrogen is stored as liquid or slush. And liquid hydrogen has a density of 70.85 kg/m^3, so that would work out to 212,550 kg of antihydrogen. That would contain 1.9*10^22 Joules of energy, and double that would be released reacting with matter, about 9 million megatons according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TNT_equivalent (360,000 H-bombs).

Not sure how effective it is and if it's 1:1

Ship Counselor. I guess it was an idea that you need something like that for a big Family ship like the Galaxy Class Enterprise. Basically you had a small village living on a ship.

They make Dianna change later. She's allowed to wear civilian clothes because she's the therapist/psychiatrist on the ship. The top brass allows it because it makes the crew not see her as a commanding officer, makes them open up to her.

Some hardass admiral changes this policy later.

>Muh post-scarcity economics

Nobody is going to work for free, especially when you have the same economic entitlements as the guy who sits at home all day. If people are given the choice of cruising the galaxy all day in super-deluxe space hotels, or sitting on some shit hole planet doing maintenance work on dirty machinery, guess which they are going to do?

>inb4 muh pride

The very notion that people even join Star Fleet and put life and limb on the line is full of shit. You take money out of the equation, and you decentivize the very notion of work.

Also, until Replicators became a thing, how did their economic system even work? Who the fuck was manufacturing and transporting billions of goods even day? Who procured the resources, marketed the goods, and spent 1000's of hours improving already existing goods?

Things are scarce like Dilithium Crystals aren't replicatable.

The problem is the luxury of everything else is so seeking them out in a galaxy with billions of stars is easy.

Do you know how many millions of stars are in federation space?

What are mods, what is art, what is music.

People do these for fame. You have people releasing huge mods that literally change one game to another for 0 dollars. Because they'll have a huge following will be famous.

Take Dota for example.

Until Dota 2 came along Icefrog pretty much did it for fame.

The guy who founded it was a NWO creep, UN apologist and occultist.
It's quite literally NWO propaganda.
Their depiction of anarchism is a horrifying hell demon who is pointlessly mean to everyone, and their metaphor for racism was murdering people for completely meaningless and superficial differences. The great moral posturing is an empty-headed way to feel superior.

We must have watched two completely different things. Garak just so happened to know certain things due to his experience in suit tailoring. Lots of people travel in and out of his store all the time. I don;t know what you're implying, he was lucky to get out of those situations alive. That thing with the Romulan ambassador was an accident. You can't prove a thing Kiwi.

>Inter-planetary space lanes shipping billions of tonnes of goods PER DAY are automated, when Star Fleet doesn't even have the capability to automate a shuttle craft

There were countless Trek episodes where they had to help out civilian freighters, and DS9 even showed us that on Earth people still had businesses and restaurants and shit.

Handful of people? If I recall, we never once see a human who actually lives the life you are describing. The closest we get in Diana's mother, and she isn't even human.

>Speaking of which, why the fuck are there people working all over the resorts on Risa? What motivation do they have to give people massages all day, and serve food?

Nope.

Besides, doesn't change the fact that Gul Dukat did betray his people with his lust for power. Millions of Cardassians died as a result of the treaty with the Dominion.

So people are going to spend their lives doing menial labor that is incapable of automation, or being freighter captains for... Fame? What fame?

Why the fuck did Sisko's father have a restaurant for? I mean shit, we see him peeling potatoes in an alleyway at one point when he goes back to Earth. Who normally peels the potatoes? Do they do it for potato fame?

It works in star trek because people are self motivated. Reality is no one wants to work harder for no gain and that system is easily exploited.

>>
>>67563452
What does that have anything to do with the Federation though? We see people on Earth and members of the Federation doing completely lackluster and menial labor.

Unless these people are being incentivized somehow, or given any kind of benefit, then they aren't going to do those jobs.
>>
>>67544156
this is the future if an alien species like Vulcans establish contact with humans after a nuclear world war 3 happens.

the future presented in star trek is most likely not going to happen from these two conditions being necessary. aliens can possibly exist in our galaxy, but it is unlikely they will contact us on earth like the Vulcans did. world war 3 going nuclear also probably isn't going to happen despite all of the nukes that exist. the main cause of world war 3 was the eugenics wars, and this was supposed to happen during the 90s if I remember correctly. we will probably get partially sentient artificial intelligence before we acquire the technology needed for genetic engineering to the scale of Khan and the other genetically augmented warlords.

Old man sisko does have an incentive - he fucking LOVES to cook.

It's his passion, he doesn't want to be a starship captain, he doesn't want to join starfleet - he wants to cook the best damn gumbo anyone's ever eaten.

You didn't even mention Picard's brothen and well whole family.

They're quite happy being what is essentially 18th century french people making their wine.
>>
It's weird actually. Yeah the federation is kind of commie, and took multiculturalism far enough as to put a bunch of aliens on their crews. It was always weird to see the other alien ships were homogeneous crews but Fed ships were mixed.

But then they introduced the Borg. Which are even more collectivist. And the major bad guys of the series after that. So I dunno what the hell message they were trying to send.
>>
>>67566453
>18th century people
That's what gets me. It's like, barring Riker's jazz, everything interesting stopped being made circa 1825. No modern music, no modern arts or games. All old shit.
>>
>>67565243
you pretty much have to read a summary of star trek to understand why people are willing to do menial labor (unless you want to watch every series and most movies instead). basically it comes down to how united earth was structured and the early human relationship with the Vulcans, so you'll have to definitely watch First Contact and Star Trek Enterprise (which isn't as bad as people make it out to be, it just isn't as good as TOS TNG or voyager)
>>
>>67567603
this is an intentional plot hole in my opinion. they didn't want to include culture past a certain point, so that point essentially became the point of divergence and anything past that point was omitted.
>>
>>67568174

Can you imagine though? A Klingon citing quotes from his favorite Earth Anime while firing torpedo's instead of Shakespeare?

Everything I said is objectively true. Garak planned the bombing as a contingency, which is clearly established in the episode. Maybe if you didn't drink whiskey like water you'd remember.

Then again, I'm talking to someone who descended from a people unable to farm potatoes.
>>
>>67567574
the borg were introduced to the series to provide an enemy which represents the antithesis of the federation's goals. instead of seeking out new allies and helping out each other, they assimilate anyone in their path and take everything for their own use. the romulans are sort of in between the two entities, which is kind of interesting given that they branched off from the vulcans who indirectly caused the federation to exist.
>>
>>67544156
Yes and the entire federation are a bunch of coddled pretentious pussies that let the romulans and Klingons walk all over them. Even
Humanities greatest ally the vulkans treat them with contempt.

Part of this was Roddenberry's left leaning political philosophy, part if it the writers didn't want to write about stuff like poverty as they thought other programs delved into it better. But behind the veneer are signs of economic failure, like the home planet of Tasha Yar (Turkana, an unsubtle nod to piracy) being a dystopian shithole of rape gangs and poverty. A planet that was part of the federation until it broke away.

As they drift further from Roddenberry's influence, it changes significantly.
