Stictly speaking, Gaelic refers to a language grouping, composed of Irish, Scottish and Manx.
All 3 come from Old Gaelic and ultimately proto Gaelic. So calling Scottish "Scottish Gaelic" would be like calling Polish "Polish Slavic" or something.
The reason it's called "Scottish Gaelic" in Scotland is to dinstinguish it from Scots (the English historically spoken in Scotland) but most english speakers just call it (wrongly) "Gaelic" for short.

Results for the referendum seem valid and expected, since the vast majortity of opinion polls in the run up to the election, both done by official and private sources, put the separatists in the minority.
