This is literally what the problem is. /pol/ would have been ecstatic 1 year ago if Cruz was right behind the frontrunner, if that frontrunner was a Jeb or Walker. And they would like him for the same reasons they like Trump, namely the ability for both to trigger the fuck out of libshits.
Remember when Carson surged a few months back, even overtaking Trump in a handful of polls? /pol/ when full on damage control and dumped all over him, despite him previously being a /pol/ favorite before, and after.
This Cruz shitposting didn't start until Cruz really caught up and making wins.

Cruz absolutely has a chance. He was considered a farshot at the beginning, no different than Trump. Now it's come down to the two of them.
And while general election polls are irrelevant at this stage, Cruz outperforms Trump against Hillary. So not sure what you're getting at there.

I would 100% prefer this, but there's no way Congress would approve him. He's not even friends with most of his Senate Republicans, let alone the libshit Democrats approving a guy with his track record.
