I was just reading an article in Elle about how a successful director Catherine Hardwicke found it hard to get financial support and to be allowed to direct films even though she had directed Twilight.

To be fair, Catherine Hardwicke is a pretty shitty director. The studio that made Twilight only hired her for the first one because they had pretty low expectations, and they started hiring real, legitimate directors after it became a hit.
Not to sound like a fag, but the first Twilight is just awkward and weird. The staging is messed up; it's unintentionally funny in spots; she's just really not a very good director. Thirteen was okay, I recall, but maybe for the wrong reasons. . .
