HIV is the Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus. It reproduces by injecting its reproductive DNA into human white blood cells, causing them to be destroyed and lowering the white blood cell count.
after a sufficient amount of time, the white blood cell count becomes dangerously low, leading to what we call Autoimmune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) which is an autoimmune disease.
Theoretically there can be many causes of AIDS because technically speaking HIV is not AIDS, but simply a cause of AIDS which is just one of many different types of autoimmune diseases.
but, yes, HIV does lead to AIDS in people susceptible to the virus.
