ITT: Superdelegates, what are they? why do they matter?

Hillary is beating sanders 1231 to 576 in delegates but a good handful of hillary's delegates are superdelegates, so does this mean the lead she has over sanders isnt that big? what the fuck are superdelegates

IT'S CALLED GOOGLE YOU STUPID FAT FUCK

Super delegate are elected officials and ranking party members in each state. Some of them have said they'll support Hillary, so she's getting to count them. They can change their minds whenever, though, and they're only 20% of the overall delegate count. Whoever goes into the convention with more pledged delegates will get the nomination, this is just establishment math to make a weak candidate look inevitable.

"an unelected delegate who is free to support any candidate for the presidential nomination"

i get that. but does that mean hillary is guarenteed those delegates? or can those superdelegates be handed to sanders
>>
>>67299297
Nope, they can vote for whoever they want. They could support Clinton all the way up until the vote at the convention and at the last minute vote for Sanders.

so basically, what you're saying is that the lead that hillary appears to have over sanders isnt really that great and that sanders still has a chance of securing the nomination?

This is why superdelegates were invented
>>
>>67299479
Damn right. But CNN is paid and will continue to indiscriminately group delegates and super delegates for love of Shillary

The 'Democratic' party is only named as much to fool ignorants. Democracy only matters within the context of a Republic, outside of which it is rule by mob which is the exact same as anarchy.

Hillary is an elitist who believes the rule of law does not apply to her. Bernie is a communist who believes the rules of economics do not apply to him.

Vote Trump and refuse to be stumped.

Clinton has a lead of 206 pledged delegates right now, but all of her slam dunk states are behind her. Now she's coming into swing states and states with whiter populations. She's in a strong position, but Sanders is still in it, especially after the Michigan upset.

>>67299297
They can change their vote, they aren't conditionated to anything. In 2008 Shillary had the adventage with the Superdelegates as well but Obongo won the delegate numbers so a lot of the superdelegates that were supporting Shillary changed towards Obongo and gave him the nomination.

This could change again if Sanders win the delegate count, though that is hard, specially if he doesn't win Florida or Ohio.

Michigan Happen because it was an open primary and Sanders benefits from Open primaries in white states, the most important states coming are not open primaries, at best they are semi-open, so I doubt he will outperform the polls as much as he did in Michigan.

Its never had to happen before. This is going to come down to a couple of factors. First, if Sanders goes to the convention with a delegate lead they have to turn because theres no way the DNC wants a candidate open to GOP attack along the lines of "even the Democrats didn't want..." Second, right now you have a lot of polling happening. The super delegates are party officials, they're people interested in the overall health of the Democratic party. Ultimately, they're going to support whoever has the best chance of beating Trump. Specifically, that means whoever is polling best against Trump in swing states. Hillary did well in the deep south, but we know where those electoral college votes are going. Nevada, Ohio, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Colorado, etc are what matters now. The Superdelegates will be looking very closely at specific polling data for those states when they go to the conventions.

That assumes that a lot of Democrats chose to vote for Trump because they thought he was a weak candidate. Its a good argument, but the reality is that we don't know. I'll be watching the next few working class white states, though.
