While I'm all for privacy, I think it is a problem if many people are killed because of lack of security.
You can say all you want about privacy and rights but then you're going to have a much tougher time protecting the people.
So what do you want, a free country with scared people or a not so free country with people who feel secure?
Its all about achieving a stance of equilibrium between these two points. You can give people a lot of freedom, but that will create less security.
Either way, I don't know how voting for security is against the people. What's worth more, the privacy or the lives of people? As long as the surveillance doesn't reach an exageratting point, I think its ok, specially if it is done on suspects.
