It's unlikely that Sealion would have ever been a success. The entire blitz was mismanaged on Goring's end, meaning that Germany could not maintain the air superiority needed to neutralize England's naval dominance of the channel with air power. His dismissal of radar and the targeting of population centers rather than military targets including the radar stations were his biggest blunders. Furthermore the sinking of the Italian navy at port meant that England could allocate less naval resources to the Mediterranean and more to the Atlantic where they were sorely needed.
He fucked up because instead of going for military targets he went full edgelord and tried to demoralize the citizens.
