Trump arrived in Chicago before the rally started and police enforcement notified him and his campaign that large numbers of protesters were arriving on scene. They left Trump the recommendation of postponing the rally and Trump decided to do that. Once the rally was postponed the protesters started cheering and that's when the only actual conflicts came about. Some people got into small fights and pushed people around but no one was arrested or seriously injured. The area continued to have protesters around for the next several hours and news networks continued to report on it all day.
