No, the same thing would have happened as happened to Ron Paul in 2012: the media slid him into oblivion. I frankly believe Trump is cognizant of what happened during the 2012 primary race and knew he had to make the media work for him instead of against him.
The difference is that Ron Paul had policy-driven rhetoric but didn't have the emotion-driven rhetoric to get a truely massive enough lead in the polls. Trump's done the exact opposite and puts all his policy on his website and books while his speeches are all about selling himself to the Republican (and now general) voter. I hold both Paul and Trump in high regard as very intelligent men, however it's obvious that Trump has the upper hand when it comes to dealing with mass media.

I'm not sure there's anything Ron Paul could have done differently. I think the efforts to destroy his campaign early on were even stronger and more concentrated than the efforts to derail Trump. Rand Paul was a disappointing alternative to Ron, but he said it best when he stated that the media gives Donald billions in free advertising by just talking about him 24/7.
Also, curious question, as a formal supporter of Ron Paul, how can you trust Donald Trump when he holds a lot of statist views and only in the past decade has donated heavily to the political left while simultaneously singing their praises?
