I had a long discussion with my friend who is still in college taking economics classes and is a Berntard last night. I told him that basically Trump wants to bring manufacturing and low skill jobs back into the US by making it more competitive for businesses to keep jobs here than it would be to just ship them out. He didn't think that was a good idea because he thinks we should focus on creating more specialized jobs and that we should be focusing on creating a nation of college graduates.
He didn't understand the concept that everyone in the workforce can work low skilled jobs, both uneducated and highly educated alike. He kept insisting that we create more specialized, high education jobs and that we should move away from low skill, low education jobs. He didn't understand that doing so would create a huge dichotomy between socioeconomic classes and that increasing the supply of highly educated workers without increasing the amount of high education jobs devalues the college degrees as a whole. He also went on and on about how people should be able to afford a good quality of life on minimum wage and when I told him that's completely doable except for in some parts of the country, like where we live in California, and his only response is that it's kinda fucked up that someone can't afford to live on minimum wage in San Fransisco, and didn't see the irony of the fact that SF is so expensive because of all the highly educated, high specialization jobs there drive the cost of living up.
He's majoring in economics and I schooled him at every turn. He was clearly just spouting off misinformation coming from Bernie himself.
