I disagree with their assertion that the West is fracturing as a result of too many external threats (terrorism, Russia, China etc). The West is fracturing because domestic threats are beginning to take precedence over the international ones.
Socially globalization is damaging us, and when economic conditions are poor it is fair to ask what benefit it is bringing.
The EU itself is a failure. It is my understanding that one of the key reasons for forming the European Union was to stave off the prospect of German domination of mainland Europe. Rather than Europe being beholden to German military dominance now it is being crushed under the boot of the German economy.
I agree the idea of Europe as a bubble of prosperity and security is being challenged. Again though this is a product of an open door immigration policy, rather than economic conditions.
