People are voting for him because "he's a nice guy." In reality he's probably the worst candidate on the Republican side. He wants to arm and aid Ukraine and end starting WWIII with Russia, among other things.
I think hes still in it because of his ego.. if you look on the past debates he was always the one left out (marco vs trump vs cruz). I bet he gets bullied in the backstage by those 3 and now the only way he can prove his self worth to them is by staying in the race

He's a democrat. He spent his time attacking Donald Trump in the first 2 debates and spent millions of dollars in attack ads but then starts playing "nice guy". He's openly stated that his goal is to leech delegates and cause a brokered convention, because he knows that he would be the nominee if Trump doesn't reach 1240 delegates.
He met with Cruz and Rubio last night, they have carefully planned something "big" for this debate. Rubio is their fall guy, he will destroy himself by spending every second of his speaking time attacking Trump before he drops out in 4 days. Cruz and Kasich will stay until the convention.

After Rubio, Kasich is one of only two guys left standing against Trump. It's just that simple. His recent rise in the polls is analogous to what happened in 2012 when the GOP went through every alternative before finally landing on Romney. Ohio may go for Kasich, but that's the only place other than perhaps a couple of very small states in the northeast where he has a chance. Trump is going to win IL, FL, NC for sure next Tuesday with Cruz possibly winning MO. Ohio will be meaningless since Kasich is there governor.
Trump will have the nomination all but sewed up after next Tuesday.
