Hm, interesting. I converted to Christianity a few months ago and am trying to pick a denomination. I wanted to be Catholic or Orthodox, but the more I think about it, I just really can't get into some of the practices they do, especially the Pope thing with Catholics.
That said, I love their churches, and their theology is top notch. Most of the time you see Christians getting BTFO by fedoras is because the fedora is arguing with some shit-for-brain Protestant instead of an actually Catholic or Orthodox priest, who actually have an understanding of theology.

I highly recommend you check out Keith Thompson's Reformed Apologetics Ministries on Youtube. He debunks a lot of the claims of the RCC, fedoras, Islam, etc. Reformed Protestantism has a good theological and philosophical backing to it imo.
Regardless it doesn't matter if Catholicism or any religion is "un-American" or not what matters is if it is true (I don't believe it is).

The "dominant" church is catholic in almost every single state, because the nature of Protestantism means there are dozens of different denominations.
The difference is Protestants more or less all get along with each other, and even have no problem with going to each others churches and participating in Communion.
Therefore, Texas is a Protestant state, like every other state in the US. And it's only got 34% Catholic because of the spics. Now shoo, shoo, water beaner.
