There's a lot of dirt Cruz and Rubio have on Trump for the debate today. They'll be pushing for policy specifics a lot more, then Rubio will go on a suicide attack, drop out and endorse Cruz the next day.
Unless Trump has been doing a lot of research and comes prepared to the debate (unlikely) he'll at best only come out unscathed which will guarantee an Ohio loss and make Florida a coinflip.

It's too late for Rubio to try and drop out and push Cruz in Florida. He's already sucked up way too many votes, and they can't be changed.

As Jeb was falling and Rubio placed a strong third in Iowa the establishment began to unite around Rubio. Cruz needed to do very well in the Deep South to have a chance and all the polls showed that, outside of Texas, Trump was going to sweep the south. Outside of flyover states that have a handful of delegates, Cruz has almost no appeal. Rubio looked like the biggest threat at the time.
