money is just an accepted token of exchange that can be redeemed for trade or service. For the token to be valuable it must be rare, cannot be reproduced, and cannot degrade.
gold was accepted for that purpose. It was easier to trade gold for a cow than trade a thousand pies.
now money is backed by military strength.
overall money is only valuable as long as there are resources available like fertile land, seeds, animals and clean water.
