They're short sighted as hell. They know they can't control Trump while he's in office, but the alternative is that the entire party dies. They probably figure that the outcome (not having a puppet) is the same whether the party dies or they get their shill in, but its really not the same. If Trump gets in and does a good job, the party's good name will be restored. With that reputation, they can more easily win the next election with whatever their next puppet candidate is. The worst thing that could happen is Trump will do horribly and the party will die out....which is the same thing that will happen if he doesn't win the nomination. At least by going with Trump they'll have a chance at power again in the future, instead of no chance at all. Do they not understand the concept of delayed gratification?

The only thing that worries me is Ohio. We know Trump is going to win Florida, however Ohio is a much tougher task, seeing as the people of Ohio really love Kasich[spoiler]he has a 62% approval rating[/spoiler]. According to what I saw on the news this morning, if Trump wins Florida and Ohio, he only needs to get half of the delegates to win the nomination. If he gets Florida but loses Ohio, he has to get 60%. If, in the worst case scenario, he loses both Ohio and Florida, he needs 70%.
So basically winning Ohio and Florida would seal the deal, wining Florida but losing Ohio would be decent, and losing both Florida and Ohio would force us into a brokered convention.
