You're forgetting about the Puritans. The main effect on New England (without a doubt the birthplace of the revolution) would've been on trade with the Caribbean in rum and molasses. Another thing you're discounting is the use of white indentured servants for plantations, as well as the sharecropping and tenant farming systems that were used after slavery. It's possible that tobacco and cotton would have been viable without African slaves.
