Europeans tend to have more income but Americans tend to have more wealth.
Plus property values and cost of living vary by location, so you could own a 10 bedroom mcmansion in the Midwest but not be able to afford a 2 bedroom loft in London.
Are you better off making 100k when everything you want costs 50k, or making 1million when everything you want costs 800k?

I come from Korea, I've been living in west europe, america and now east europe and west europe is by far the easiest and fairest in terms of lifestyle.
You'd have to be some sort of doctor to earn 30k in Europe but with way less than that you afford to have a comfortable life that includes absolutely everything, while in America you can't even begin dreaming living such a life with the same amount of money.

American houses are mostly build out of wood panels, while in europe we build houses out of brick or concrete. There is a price difference. And property area is dependent on location. In states with a lot of room and low population, they do have more property, but in high population areas they have very little property.

I was surprised to learn that in many eastern European countries the hourly wage is only $1-2. The cost of living must be lower but damn, that must suck.
If we're going by GDP the combined GDP of the entire UN is greater than the US.
However, when you compare the GDP of individual countries to our states the difference is pretty astounding. Several states have a higher GDP then the UK for example.

In Germany, it is absolutely normal to earn 30k after taxes (roughly 55k before taxes) after 10-15 years of working experience. The UK and France should have similar values.
In Poland, you are lucky to earn 30k before taxes.
Eastern Europe is very poor, you have countries like Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus etc.
