So, pretty basic commercial.You notice it's a mom buying hockey supplies and warm clothing for the game that her children are playing using a credit card.
You watch a little closer and notice that
A.) The woman is white, her children are white.
B.) Not once do you see the dad.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "But anon, who cares?" Like I said, it's a subtle association. It would be almost nonsensical if it wasn't such a repeated, almost dogmatic occurrence in many commericals where there is a missing white spouse or that one of the spouses is a different gender.
So you watch again. Then you notice, at the very end, there's a black guy there. Again, who cares? Well, it wouldn't be so bad if you saw a black woman being there with him or if you actually saw a black child in the hockey game. So now, you associate the black man being with this white woman, even though this clearly isn't the case. That's how marketing, propaganda, mass-hypnosis, whatever you want to call, it works. Association is the most basic form of marketing, because it's the most basic understanding of human functionality.
