As one small sample size, I have yet to see a single cruz bumper sticker or sign. Trump stickers and signs? See them every day here in rural maine. Note the rural. Kansas is one of the great plains states and has an extremely entrenched republican party (I think they've always been republican since their admission to the union. Maybe they went for FDR once). One of the things about caucuses in a solidly republican state is that if the party bigwigs at the top want things to go for Cruz then there are layers upon layers of party functionaries to go out to those caucuses and make sure that Cruz wins.
MN and Iowa re upper midwest. Both the upper midwest and the great plains states are generally more educated than the South and don't fit as well into Trump voting patterns as KY and TN.
